Toyota is now suddenly showing the base Gen4 Prius price (Active model) as £24,100 which is a £500 increase over the previous price of £23,600.

I haven't found any news announcement about this, but all the prices do seem to have increased on the Toyota pricing site.

(STILL no 2017 plugin prices though )

Same thing here in Mexico. Six months ago based model price tag was 339,700MXN. Today its price is 351,700MXN, 12K MXN more, about 475GBP increase.

did they add the safety package as standard, like they did here, on the 2017 with price increase?

I believe a UK member in another thread said the UK only changes model years when there are major changes. In the US, it appears they slightly changed the headlights (according to some tests) and they added some safety features as standard. Toyota has a goal to add many features as standard in the near future.

No. There's not such package available here. It's the very same model. No changes.

Just to clarify, the Safety Sense technology was and is standard on all UK models.

Seems a questionable strategy to be increasing the price when the Ioniq is just coming on stream as a close competitor at a much lower price.

Which, an influential Consumer product testing organisation, says that Parking sensors are one three things that their research shows are basic must-have items for customers. Even though the cost of these must really be very little to manufacture as part of the car, Toyota has excluded these from the lower two of the four UK model lineup.

To add them as an etra costs £450. I'd guess that's about eight (!) times more than they cost to Toyota.

I hope you are right because the way things are at the moment, Toyota are not likely to win friends or new customers, especially when the Prius is 20% more expensive than the Ioniq.

I don't know how to evaluate that, but I can't say they're winning me over at the moment!

Having said that, they do manufacture in this country, though not the Prius obviously.

I see that in this article about the Senior Management of Toyota in UK and Europe
Toyota Appoints Top British Talent To Senior Roles In Europe And UK Operations - UK Media Site
a reference to "Toyota’s Customer First approach across Europe".

    Hollow laughter?

I wonder if @Prius Team have any contacts or influence in the UK?

I would certainly have some straight questions to ask and fairly strong comments to make, to Toyota UK!

At least you have it as an option on the lower Trims. The Trim Two & Trim Two Eco here have no optional safety packages available.

I suspect Toyota US & Toyota UK are both subsidiaries of Toyota Japan. They may have some indirect contacts, though.
It would be great to see Toyota teams from other countries here too. I think UK & Australia have quite a few users here on PC.

EDIT: Stupid spell checker corrected "UK" to "OK"

The prices in Canada went up by almost $1,000 (Heated seats were added to some trim levels if they weren't standard in 2016).

Also note that the £450 parking sensors is just the basic sensors I'm guessing. The top two models have "Intelligent Clearance Sonar" so they're not just parking sensors but ones that are linked to a central ECU that will automatically stop the car if it detects that there's a foreign object in the path of direction.

Update. UK Parking pack now £550 an increase of almost 25%!

Interesting point about ICS. Toyota says it is part of the Intelligent Park Assist that is only available on the top two models.

Whether or not they are different sensors I don't know but looks like the ECU that looks after ICS is the (S)IPA ECU.

So in the UK if you want ICS and 15" wheels looks like you have to get the level 3 ( Business Plus) model and ask for a wheel downgrade.

Or get a level 2 model ( Business Edition) and add parking sensors but live without ICS and Park Assist.

ICS and IPA use the same set of sensors. There are 12 sensors around the car as part of the ICS/IPA package.

I don't know what "parking sensors" exactly entail in the UK but in North America, it typically means just 4 sonar sensors in the rear bumper (hence it's commonly referred to as "backup sensors"). Front-bumper-mounted sensors that are installed from the factory are called "clearance sensors" in Toyota-speak.
