not sure he said, but i believe ev mode, otherwise, you really can't tell how many miles you can go on ev.
i think the 'non ev mpg of 51' statement was after he ran out of ev, what he got for hv mpg's. perhaps i'm assuming too much though.

and yes, toyota has a way of confusing many issues. let's not even get into the whole ' i own a v, not a V' thang.:p

I've managed to get past the 30 mile EV mark if just. I'm pretty much 100% of the time in eco mode but I will occasionally use power mode for passing on the highway. Average speed is probably around 35. Most of my EV driving is city but I've got about 3 miles of highway to and from work each day. I also never use the climate while in EV. Just heat it up before hand using the climate prep features.

I can imagine that going well pas 60 would wreck havoc on that number. I've taken to using HV mode whenever I know I'll be on the highway for long stretches and saving EV mode for city driving. The overall mpg of about 80 seems pretty solid to me even though I am using HV mode about 75% of the time.

if you're showing 79 mpg, doesn't that mean the engine ran? or is that for the 1,987 miles?
i'm not familiar with prime screens, thanks!

That's the odometer distance and MPG over that distance. So I've averaged 79MPG over about the first 2k miles. That seems to add up since I've filled up only 3 times since I've bought the car and I'm only a quarter of the way through that third(11gallon) tank. I'm guessing that the ICE has run about 60-75% of the time I've been driving the car. A good deal of my early miles have been longer trips on the highway. I try to use the ICE then and save the electric motor for the city parts of my drives. No idea if that's the most efficient way to do it but it seems like it's been working well :)

As your results prove, your strategy is very sound. (y) You should get even more when the wx gets better. Hypermiler types should ekk out low 40's when really pushing things to the extreme.

Pretty sure it's lifetime mpg. Which is an interesting stat.

At first I was bothered by it. What I initially wanted to know was: if driving only with the ICE how many miles could I go on a gallon of gas. But that's not really a real stat since even in HV mode on the highway there are times that you will drive all electric or partially electric. The only time Ive noticed it run just on the ICE is at rather high highway speeds with cruise control.

So I think it makes sense to say "how many miles did you go on a gallon of gas over a certain distance." I think this is a lot more useful for shorter trips than for the odometer. I remember when the chevy dealer tried to sell me on the volt getting 1k+ mpg when owners really never left the 50mile radius. In my opinion that's when a lifetime mpg becomes a little worthless. In addition if you're getting that mpg you should be driving a leaf, tesla or golf ev.

pip is the same way. the only way to get true mpg is not plug in.

on that mode of thought the only way to get true MPG is that your car is not a hybrid or plug in:eek:

with no wall charge, all the mileage is provided by gasoline, same as any car.

Calm my friends. With luck, I'll pickup our Prius Prime in January. After properly inflating the tire, I'll drive it ~1,000 miles home to Alabama. Along the way, I'll do various highway mph vs MPG tests. Then I'll probably do another couple of hundred miles but by ~2,000 miles:
    1. engine oil change - and send sample for testing
    2. transaxle oil change - and send sample for testing
    3. alignment
Then I'll feel comfortable benchmarking the car.

I'm up to 32.6 EV miles after 522 miles since new, with about 95% ev driving.

    Happy New Year to All!

I've gotten just under 30 miles EV and over 200 mpge for the ~400 miles I've driven at about 82% EV.

It's hilly here but I've done almost no highway driving keeping it almost always on Eco except a couple times to the legendary POWER of the Prius in Pwr mode. The hybrid milage I've gotten averaged just under 60 mpg.

At about 2500 miles, I'm getting about 24 EV miles, my usual drive is 100 miles, mostly highway.
I did a 106 mile drive Tuesday on a 4-lane state road (going 65), and had 86.7 mpg (counting the 199.9 the batters gave me for ~25 miles). That was awesome.
