You drove 35 miles in an hour and 12min. You're average speed couldnt have been 60mph. It was 29.16666 MPH.

Day three, with nothing on the dashboard display except for the Compass. (see my avatar at left).

I know it goes against all Prius etiquette... eliminating the eco-display, and the hybrid indicator, and all the dancing lines and gauges. But it's actually a relief! My eyes are on the road much more now. Driving is simple and uncomplicated again. :ROFLMAO:

Now I'm not concerned with all the "technicalities", and sometimes don't even notice if the car is in battery mode, or the gas engine is on, or how many bars are left on the battery. It's nice to just simply drive again.... And I refill the tank when it gets to 1/2 or 1/4, and I don't even have the desire to keep track of MPG's anymore. :) It is what it is.

(I will be sure to turn in my Prius Chat membership card.)

The last two times I refueled, I pulled the nozzle out right when it clicked off. ( I didn't try to squeeze in a couple extra gallons, like before.)

And now the MPG display has jumped back up to 61.4. (It was down to 52.) It is cool here, but not cold. Upper 40s in the early morning, and about 55° to 60 in the afternoon.

Maybe when I was over filling the tank previously, it may have messed up the mpg display somehow? I don't know. But just thought I would share that information. I really don't even keep track of my MPG anymore. I just fill up when it reaches 1/2 tank.

Now I feel like I'm driving a "normal" car. It's much simpler without having to check all those gauges and displays and eco-indicators.
    Happy new year to all.

Coast Cruiser - I enjoyed your two post above. And, I'm glad that your milage is back where it belongs.

One of the blessings of the Toyota hybrid system is that you can drive like a normal car, and let the system do the rest. When I bought my first Prius (2010) I tried to hyperbole, watched every tank of gas, and got annoyed with my wife when she wanted to drive a quarter mile to the post office. Now I just relax, and it does quite well by itself.

Good to hear. BTW that's the best use of "hyperbole" I've seen in a good number of years!

Very well said, Felt. And I hope I don't sound critical or condescending.

I think for some Prius owners, it's a hobby to constantly check the gas mileage and monitor all the hybrid eco-settings while driving. I went through that "new owner phase" during the first two or three months. Now I'm like Felt said above, and I just relax and drive the car normally. I don't monitor anything. I turned off the hybrid screen. It's peaceful not having to look at all that stuff. :)

We've had quite a bit of rain lately, very dark and gloomy, and I'm still surprised at how many Prius drivers don't turn on their headlights! One out of 20? That still baffles me. I don't see any reason for driving around in the dark, with no lights. (Maybe 60% of ALL cars don't turn on their lights in the rain. Weird California drivers.)

I just got back from a wet drive. It is also amazing how many drivers do not have their DRLs on too, especially on the highway.

The crazy nuts around here seem to SPEED UP when we get rain. I'm sure glad we don't get snow or ice!

Yeah around here you'll get "entitled" 4WD'rs tearing around when there's ice and snow.

How about this, coming home through Port Moody about a week back, below freezing, ice and snow abounds, doing the limit in the right lane: we're getting tail-gated by a Jesus-Great Truck, high-mounted lights. And a snow plow blade...?

Anyway, reverse-passed him (you pull over to the left lane, slow till they get by), then pulled in behind: in a shower of salt at first, it was the effing municipal plow-and-salt truck . o_O

On the news, they always show the snow storms (and resulting traffic accidents) on the East Coast of the US.
I'm sure those people are accustomed to the winter weather, but I still can't believe how fast some of them are driving during a snowstorm! With icy roads. And the Highway Patrol always advises people to SLOW DOWN... but few do?

Some people sure bring a lot of problems upon themselves… Just by ignorance, or stupidity, or stubbornness.
Or DRUNK??? We have a new law in California, you can't even hold your cell phone! It has to be mounted on either corner of the dashboard, and you can only swipe with one finger. LOL. That's a pretty unenforceable law, but I'm sure some people will get tickets. Hopefully.

Not only you Americans with nutters speeding in the wet, fog, ice/snow! We have 'em as well.
I thought you knew it's illegal to hold a phone while driving in UK for several years! £100 fine doesn't stop some of them, not servere enough!

Our new cell phone law in California just started on Jan 1st. I guarantee you. 90% of the drivers will ignore it... Or plead ignorance.

I was out early this morning. 0630. Dark, gloomy, cloudy. Sun not even up yet. I saw at least 10 Gen3 Prii's, and NOT ONE had their DRL's or headlights on! There is something seriously wrong with these Prius drivers!

Over here, if caught by police who are actively looking out for offenders using a cellphone, it's a £200/$250 fine and 6 points on driver's licence. 12 points and it's an automatic driving ban. Our cops are also using unmarked supertruck cabs so they can look into all drivers vehicles from their passenger side window. Gotcha!!!

Saw a story a few months ago about how they were on a city bus, radioing in to patrol cars up the road. Wish they'd do that here.

Coast Cruiser, I did that the first week (2013 Used Prius II) and asked my dealer at half a tank it only needed like 3.5 gallons to fill up and I was doing that trying to get in that extra ( I was able to pump in 2 more gallons) they said NOT to do that as there is a carbon filter or something I forget exactly now but it would mess it up and I would have to replace it Very $$$$ EXPENSIVE $$$$ they said. So I just fill till it CLICKS off.

Here in New Jersey my 2016 Prius during spring, summer and Fall is averaging 62 MPG. In sub freezing days of winter, even without snow on the ground it falls to only 50 mpg. I try avoiding plowing thru snow but would expect it to drop as low as 20-30 mpg depending on snow depth and temperatures. On just frigid days, most of lost mpg is because cabin heat is sucking the heat out of the coolant. So the ICE must run more to keep up coolant temperatures. You only save gas when its running electric. "Luv dat car!"
