Well, completed the truck trade in tonight and got my package #6 Silver Prius. Gave the guzzler one last hug... :( I loved that truck, but made the move...

10.4 MPG down to the dealer (80 miles away)...54.8 on the way home B) I think I'll be OK...

especially when I get the tax credit and the HOV plates...Thanks to everyone here for all the great info...

BTW, I think I did good on the buy and the dealership was great....found them while hunting for a Toyota Extra care warranty for my wifes Sienna...saved $600.00 over my local dealers price

they gave me $500 below sticker on the car...while beating everyone else's trade in price by $500 too...

Can I list the dealer and names here? The warranty offered for the Prius was like $940 or so...didn't get it yet...I'll wait until I get closer to 36K...

    See everyone around!!!

MG, congrats on the new ride. Yeah, a lot of folks plug their dealerships when they've been treated well. There may actually be an entire forum on the site for just that. BTW, what kinda MasterGunner are (were) ya? Just curious.

First of all, congratulations on your new Prius.

I totally know where you're coming from and I was also very wary trading in my old vehicle and wondering if the Prius was going to work for me but it's the best trade in I ever made. I can almost guarantee that after a few weeks you're not even going to think about the truck again.

Those trips to the gas pumps are really going to make you feel giddy too.

My father has a truck similar to the one you posted and since I got the Prius he hardly ever drives it anymore. He's constantly wanting to take the Prius and says it's one of the most fun he's ever had driving. I'm beginning to think his trucks days are numbered.

    Enjoy! :)

Mechanicsville Toyota just outside of Richmond, VA

The sales Mgr there was Keith Tate
    Email: [email protected]
    Phone: 804-559-8000

Worked directly with him...they even did my trade via e-mail and pictures...and stuck to the agreed upon amount!!

He had one of his sales people explain the entire car system to me also...best car buying experience ever...and I've had alot of cars...

I am in Northern Virginia, there are TONS of Hybrids here...I had to jump now to get under the 30 Jun deadline for HOV use on the main corridor to DC..

BTW, The Warranty guy was Scott Moss

The truck was great and four wheel steering was awesome...it was almost funny when I looked at the gas guage when I got home...not even one block was gone...

Now *thats* what we are talking about! Congragulations on getting a great car, AND the excellent fuel economy out of the gate.

Cutting you petrol bill by 80% must feet pretty good :)

    I feel your pain!

I just did almost the exact same trade... 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 V8 (not HD) for an Option 7 Prius.

Congratulations! I think we will be fine without the trucks though. :)

I hope this is a trend that keeps going. There are just too many trucks on the road, especially here in So Cal, where most of these people don't really need them (like me).

I have some car thieves to thank for my conversion from my F250 King Ranch PU to my Prius (my first non pick up vehicle). They ganked myPU when prices were $2.89/gal and I was getting about 15 mpg. I do miss it, but only when I need to haul something big. I just pay the store or a friend to deliver or help move something.

Congratualtions!! When I was looking to buy a new vehicle I had planned to buy a truck. I had a Toyota truck for about 10 years previously and missed having it around. Then I came across a Prius and was sold on it and bought one.

However now I just bought an electric Gem truck for my business so now I got my Prius and also my truck! My electric truck can only go 25mph but I'm ok with that since many of the streets I will be driving it on are only 25-30mph. My truck was only $8,400 so I didn't think that was bad to pay to not have to go without a truck. The best part is I ONLY pay $214 per YEAR for my truck for FULL coverage insurance. Electric cost is suppose to be one penny a mile!!

Congrats on the new Prius! I'm sure that it hurt a little bit to say goodbye to the truck, but it sure won't hurt one bit to say goodbye to filling up the truck at the gas station. I hope you enjoy your Prius as much as I enjoy mine, it's a very fun car to drive and has a lot more spunk and sportiness than one might presume, whatwith being "one of those hybrids" and all. ;) :D

Know how you feel. I mourned my Explorer not being in the driveway, too, but since I sold it to my son instead of trading it in, I still get to see it once in a while..... I'm happy not to be buying the gas for it, though.

Congrats on the UPGRADE! Yea you wont miss those gas bills!

Isn't funny how the majority on this site already have a Prius, yet we get excited when we see pictures of other Prii? I know I do! Heck I get excited when I look outside and see my seaside beauty in front of our office- shinny and cute! And to think, the secretary thinks I go up front to talk to her HAHA

    I traded F250 diesel ford 4x4, 1999 with 111,000 miles on it. 17.8mpg.

I drive about 800 miles a week and am getting 52mpg with my Prius. It's nice to save about $350 a month on fuel. I've needed to pay about $60 in delivery fees and borrow a truck a couple other times in the last 4 months since I got the prius. It's an adjustment, but it eventually seems ok.

In 4 months (to date, today), I've saved the planed 486 gallons of diesel and my pocktbook $1417.00 over 13,200 miles.

If we had any good place to park that pickup, I'd have kept it and bought the Prius also. As is, it would have been too big and too much in the way.

Well I ALWAYS have it plugged in when I'm not driving it. That way it stays charged up. I can drive about 30-40 miles on a full charge. Then I just come home plug it in for a couple hours and I can go back out again. So I can drive it multiple times in one day whenever I need to. So it's very useful!

No it only has a 5hp motor. Some people soup it up with a 7.7hp motor to go faster.

I LOVE IT! I realized I just can't live without having a truck around.

I figured it out and I pay alittle less than 2 pennies per mile driven! B) (If I went with a optional time of us with the electric company I could get it to down to a penny a mile--but use my computer TO much during the day though).

I kinda like it a bit more than my Prius  I just love how quiet it is. I think I will keep my Prius and get the feel of what it will be like once I get a plug for it. Boy that will be nice!

My insurance is ONLY $214 PER year for my truck. AND that's FULL coverage. Also in WI we don't have to license them so NO plate cost!

Best thing is I don't have to worry about getting a ticket for speeding B) (Got my first ticket in 15 years the other day when I went to go test drive my truck :( )

I had to have a truck also, always seem to be hauling things, plus I love to 4wheel. That is one of my passions, to camp and go offroading. I recently downsized, I had a 2003 Expl. Sport Trac, and now I have a 2002 Ranger FX4- It's a ton of fun, I love driving it, but try not to due to gas. I have side jobs that I do for extra money, and plus having the 2nd vehicle saves me money on insurance, so it almost pays for itself.

That's a GEM, right? We had a couple of those for staffers to tool
around Tour de Sol, and they were really handy. Charged right off
the same car-charging infrastructure they'd brought in to deal with
all the other electrics [and meter how much energy went into each].
