I had taken the initial error codes and cleared them from vehicle's memory

one stupid thing that I discovered inadvertently is that once a fatal error code gets displayed that the vehicle will not start up again unless the code(s) are cleared from the system... kinda sounds like a stupid thing to consider, but the code 'hangs out' till it is cleared and the computer sees the code and will refuse to start up unless it is cleared!!!

this may sound like a fairly simple thing, but will burn you in the butt if you try to start the vehicle unless these previous code(s) are removed from the system!!

I was able to check some more things out today and cleared the initial error codes via mini-vci software. the vehicle started up a couple of times and attempted to charge up the HV battery

If your car will only start one time before needing a reset, then you have a high voltage leak

    jc91006,
it seems that I can start vehicle up a number of times before a code reset is needed, trying to see a pattern but not discovered yet.

    patrick,

got vehicle started up today but getting a couple new codes:
    P0A78 DC1:586
    P0AA6 DC2:526
can you give me an idea what the additional codes imply?
the replacement transaxle was out of same year vehicle (2005) and had 68k miles on it. the vehicle was involved in front end accident, on engine/passenger side

    thanks, dan

P0A78 means a problem with the inverter or wiring harness
P0AA6 means a high voltage ground fault. A component exposed to high voltage has a voltage leak to body ground. The two likely possibilities are the traction battery where a module has an electrolyte leak, or a transaxle stator winding has faulty insulation.

nope, I did all the work myself.
looking more like I ended up getting a bum transaxle, all that work for nothing...

If anyone is interested I have a 2005 Prius for sale - with extra transaxle.
