In my experience when you're following a truck the only people who cut in front of you are the ones who are about to exit. So you can leave plenty of space and not worry about falling further and further behind.

I follow trucks at a respectable distance all the time and have never had bad rock damage from them. Any rocks dislodged from a truck ahead of you are going to be bouncing along in the same direction as you are, so they're not such a big problem. The bad rock hits I've had have all been from vehicles traveling in the opposite direction.

I do love my C, the real goal is to save on gas and maintenance, and I am learning to deal with the frustrations of other drivers. This morning, I got a final MFD readout of 70+ mpg in a short 5 mile city drive; there is a downhill portion leading up to my house with lots of stop signs... this is where EV mode and regen braking kills it!

Coincidence, someone was telling me about the Chevy Spark! I am discovering more and more about this little beast with 400 ft/lbs of torque. A side effect of performance-oriented electric cars is insane amounts of torque available from a dead stop, can smoke supercars right off the line. The Bolt model does sound better. I think the Spark with used prices around 10K USD are a great deal if you are ok with limited endurance.

  3. Imagine what fun it'll be when the touch-screen system gets the ability to read the license plate of the tailgater behind you and the option to tap the 911 button on the screen

Imagine the fun when your hacked car system does that automatically to every law-abiding driver around you.
