My goodness is this unstable software when using an brand new up to date iPhone 7s. I took it to the dealer, Hartford Toyota, for an update but, after claiming they updated the software I pointed out it was the same version I came in with. The have since stopped responding to emails for help. Seriously, crappy integration with a iPhone is simply not acceptable on a car of this cost and complexity. Anyway, here are the issues. All these have happen on both an iPhone 6s and 7s plus

    1. When dialing a number entune will call but leave the audio playing, usually radio. This happen at least twice a week and stopping and restarting the car is the only way to fix it.
    2. Voice access to Siri established then shut off immediately. Happens Daily
    3. Built in voice recognition is terrible, even after being trained. Does not work at all when trying to access music on the iPhone. Simply reports an error
4 Bluetooth playing iPhone music has random skips, as in quick losses of audio.

My personal feeling is entune using the crappy Ford inspired SDL open source solution instead of an Apple or Microsoft option is a bad choice. Open source anything means no accountability and messy software code. I wish I had known how bad this was before I commented to the prime. My last two prius's had a Rosen system installed and worked like a charm. It was built on Microsoft technology.

PLEAE Toyota, give us an Apply Carplay or Microsoft Auto upgrade option.

    We enjoy our Prime.

We do not have an Iphone, so we are not aware of these issues you seem to be having.

Open source isn't inherently unaccountable or messy (in fact, because it's visible to everyone, there's some incentive to make it not messy), and SmartDeviceLink is more open standards anyway. And, I don't think this generation of Entune actually supports SmartDeviceLink yet.

In any case, Microsoft's car platform was abandoned by Ford due to instability, AFAIK.

Apple CarPlay (and Android Auto) would be very good things for Toyota to implement, though, but they resist doing this. And, Toyota would have to implement it, and that's where bugs are coming in (Toyota's implementation of the standards, although in this case, Toyota isn't even following standards), not the SmartDeviceLink standard that AFAIK isn't even implemented here.

Other than remote climate control, I'm still trying to figure out what Entune is supposed to be for. Doesn't seem to have a purpose and when I get my Prime, I'm seriously considering not signing up or logging in unless someone can give me a reason to.

Totally agree! The whole console is so inferior to Android or Apple. This is my only disappointment with the Prime. And we have to shout loudly, Toyota is not listening

This is probably the one thing that had me pause before signing on the line for this car. Knowing that the Ioniq would support CarPlay and AndroidAuto had me thinking of waiting for that vehicle and leaving Toyota. But I really thought about how much I really use the in car systems for and decided it was good enough for my needs. I may regret that eventually but for now I am good enough with it.

That said, SDL is a feature that is coming with Entune in 2018 vehicle models, first to appear on the Camry I believe, although I would have to go digging to see where I saw that. Toyota has repeatedly said they felt their system was better than AndroidAuto and CarPlay, perhaps they need to have a chat with real users of the system because Entune is out of tune.

I have an iPhone 6plus and haven't had any of the specific issues you mentioned. Voice recognition is ok, but not great. The only thing I use is siri to send texts while driving. I have not been able to get Siri to read back texts or emails.

Overall, however, I agree that the audio system is a giant 11" disappointment. My hope when buying the car was that eventually some scrappy hacker might find a way to flash something better on it. But until then at least it looks nice :).

Many of the issues I have had with my iPhone and my Prime are things you have mentioned. I took my car in but no fixes or solutions were given to me and my problems until Toyota wakes up.

Agree - I took in my Prime Premium for a solution to the same issues. Toyota district service manager answer was 'Siri does not integrate with this car.' My first Toyota - I was shocked then talked to other Toyota owners at work and they all said the same thing, i.e. you can't use Siri in a Toyota. Not sure why they had me bring my car in for service to find that out.

    iPhone ?

I'm sorry but you'll have to sell the Prius Prime, $36k, because having a $600, iPhone 7, is more important. I will be in the Hartford area on Friday and we can 'do a deal.'

I agree. I went to sign up for it and realized it does all the same thing any smart phone does. Only benefit is remote a/c which I can do from my key fob. I'm not paying $120 a year for that.

When plugged in and charging, doesn't the app give you the SOC ? My prime hasn't arrived yet. but I understood from somewhere that you can even remotely adjust the charge schedule and "pre-warming" when plugged in.

There have been hundreds, maybe thousands, of posts like this. Not one said it was, perhaps, an Apple issue. As Bob notes above, a $600 phone and a $35,000 car, but it is always Toyota's responsibility. In any case, you should be driving, not worrying about your phone. Even hands-free is very distracting. The highway death rate is climbing due to distractions in the car.

I suspect you can blame Apple for some of this. I've often had notifications on the lock screen that such and such application wants to connect, including Entune. I have had to open the Entune app on the phone and relogin on occasion. I have a Garmin 510 gps on my bicycle that automatically uploads my rides to the Garmin connect app on the phone. The auto upload often fails. I blame Apple's enhanced security for some of this wonkiness. Make sure you have the latest OS and app versions.

I've noticed that older model Prii support newer iPhones. So entune must have added support at sometime for new phones. I've got the 7 plus which is not supported yet on my soon to arrive prime. Has anyone with older prii gotten a new phone and had to wait for entune support? If so how long?

These are all iPhone 7 and iOS problems. I'm on the Apple Developer feedback group and have posted them as problems. EVERY user should go to https://bugreport.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID and report this as a problem.

Thanks for the report! This might or might not change my P.Prime order to Advanced->Premium.

I don't think the iPhone 7s exists yet. Do you mean 7 plus, perhaps?

You'd have to go for a Plus to lose the big screen.
