We did the opposite with the 2016. We wanted Classic Silver and they had Blizzard Pearl or Hypersonic Red so we took BP.

I believe so, yes. I do no remember that problem growing up in Toronto Canada.
Here is an example I quickly found online.

Ouch. So a clear coat "top up" is probably needed every 5 or so years if you park your car outside without shade in the south, eh?

I've seen cars in California that are barely off lease (3-5 years old) with yellowed headlight covers. Here, 15 year old cars look relatively new and 20 year old cars look like they're only 10.

Possible - but even some whites (Blizzard) have clear coat. But I don't intend to keep a car that long.

That coat smells of a bad cheap nasty respray. We've had some clear-coat cars where they've been in good condition after 15 yrs, but my daughter bought a cheap SUZUKI with metallic blue/clearcoat - looked good the day she brought it home, but by a year old, it looked like the photo above.

Could be. But some belong or belonged to friends who are not snowbirds. The sun here in the summer can take the hide off an M1-A1 tank. ⛱

The clearcoat starts peeling after about years. Sometime I need to take pictures of my dark green 2000 Tundra.
We have the headlight issues too. I bought third party off eBay for some vehicles.Currently we are just treating the 2008 Corolla.

Clear on my 2003 acura is peeling... I'm the original owner. Parked outside. Seldom waxed. In New England... Stuff happens to a 14 y/o car left in the elements regardless of where it is located.

"Notus?" Potus, I know about (topical) but the N has me puzzled. I guess it must be for Nobleman, Nostradamus, or something.:ROFLMAO:

Ehh.. Your 2011 is just as ugly if not more. Like the bumper sticker says "It may be ugly but it gets 50MPG" I love the new interior, the one with the white seats looks incredible inside. The tech is fine, it does what it's supposed too. Seems to be a common problem with our culture in general, so frigging spoiled when they don't get exactly what they want the way they want it. First world problems. If most people in the world knew the kind of things we whine about they would be disgusted. Here's an engineering and technological MARVEL with hundreds of millions spent on R an D since 2011 to make this an absolute miracle of modern engineering and we whine about the looks..wow. Anyway, it's an ugly car, the 2011 is uglier IMHO. The difference in MPG and advancements in engineering in the last 6 model years alone make this model well worth it. I leased it since I didn't know how it would work for me. I've since decided to pay out the contract and keep it. As far as being offered an attractive trade value, that letter is a form letter sent to everyone who has ever bought a car from them. It wasn't because your car is somehow special or attractive to them. They don't know if it's low miles or high miles or if it's a rat that's beat up etc. They want you to buy a new car. I've been a consultant to the auto industry for 15 years at a dealership level. I've known hundreds of sales managers. I can tell you that 99% of them are blue collar guys that really could car less about the cars they sell. They are there to move metal and get paid. They jump from one manufacturer to another with no loyalty other than to a dealers pay plans. He doesn't care what you think, you sent it to the wrong guy. Send it to Toyota corporate if you want someone who cares to read it. I can and have seen letters like that sent to sales guys. It usually goes like, "hey while your hear read this letter I got on a pull ahead campaign..hey Mikey who has that letter from that stroke..ohh here it is listen to this tool whine about the **#**$ PRUIS..here read this it's hilarious.. Maybe the stroke should buy a real car not that go cart..lol lol. Sad, but true. These guys hate their customers with a passion, make fun of them as a rule of thumb in this business and like I said I have met hundreds and been in hundreds of dealerships as a fly on the wall.

As far as I can tell, the Prius has always one of the worst infotainment systems of any car. This is especially surprising given the electronics in the rest of the car. I good system can't cost that much more at the OEM level.

We walk our dog along a block with a lot of elder care homes. A lot of cars parked along the street that look to be sitting there all day, south facing. On the newer ones the headlight "shells" look good, but the ones with a few more years are getting that yellowed/opaque look.

When was it, early 1990's, that auto manufacturers went from glass sealed-beam headlights, to the "improved" permanent plastic shells with bulbs only being replaced. I recall the first time one of ours took a rock: around $250 to replace, just the part.

And latest Prius, what are those sculptures, over $1200 apiece, in the 'States.

Addendum: See at autopart retailers more like mid $700's:

HEADLAMP COMPONENTS for 2016 Toyota Prius

Maybe $1200 is all-in, installed, through dealership.
