I know it just came out. Do you think they will update the current design to look more like the Prime?

(I know nothing about Toyota's plans. (I suspect that no one who does know speaks English))

Why would they cut into their Prime sales by styling their cheaper car the same?

Who buys a Prius for the styling?

I did, or to be precise I bought it because of Toyota's horrible styling alternatives right now. I cannot stand the big black mouth on the front.

can't say 100%, but toyota's m.o. is to do a light refresh after 3 years. the changes aren't dramatic, so i doubt it will happen.
same as people who ask if prime battery will be moved or 5th seat added before gen 5. unlikely.

Changes aren't dramatic, because retooling for the new part costs money, but the Prime pieces are already being made.

That said, I don't see Toyota bringing either Prius closer together in style. They treated the PiP as a whole different model in their marketing and car options approach. They've taken the divide even further with the Prime. Unless they think looking more Primish will help sales, the Prius will remain distinct.

If the 3rd generation Prius provides any clue ..... there were very minor changes from the 2010 model to the 2015 model. Tail lights, paint colors and a few other negligible upgrades.

But you don't see this when you are behind the wheel...only other drivers do.

    In the cabin, I see:
    • other traffic and my driving situation
    • monitor dynamic cruise control to select who to follow
    • speed and MPG numbers
    • occasional glance at the fuel level and SOC
Sure I could paint the black front facia but that won't improve the MPG one bit. If I can find cover(s) that do improve MPG, I'm there.

    Off topic,
When someone says they can't see the exterior when they are driving, I think about a great lover, but who is ugly as sin ....
but that's OK when the lights are out.

    I'm sorry ... I couldn't resist.

They already updated the headlights for 2017 to reduce glare and improve safety test results.

Tail light redesign; front bumper cover redesign with DRL/fog lights moved; wheel cover redesign; addition of PLUS package; standard touch screen and Bluetooth in lower trims; different inner fender structure starting 2014 for improved crash test ratings. There were actually quite a few changes; we might see something similar with Gen IV, we might not.

notice how so much revolves around colors, lights and audio visual? they'll probably ditch the greatest tail lights ever designed.

You know what would be a cool evolution of the Z taillights?

If the < and > area had sweeping indicators that fill from top to bottom, in addition to the standard indicators. So it's a regular Z taillight. When you're turning left or right and use the indicators, the < or > will light up amber along with the indicators that are already in the triangular area.

Also, the lower rear red reflectors may shrink and will incorporate a larger brake light area (brake light shines out from behind the smaller reflector)

Sounds good to me, but they'd probably over-egg it and deform the lily.

I wondered about the tail lights lighting either from top to bottom or bottom to top.
