Anyone switch out their internal (map, reading, glove box, etc) lights for LED? Any tips, issues, specs for doing it?

Changed out my interior lights. Super easy and I think the white light far surpasses the yellow glow of incandescent bulbs. Great safety feature as it fully illuminates the interior.

Do they fade on/off like the incandescents do?

I don't 'need' to, I just like the look. Plus, for the life of me, can't figure why Toyota didn't do it that way anyways.

I purchased them about 2 year ago from ebay as a kit for my 2010.

Was very easy to install. There are quite a few YouTube videos show how to pop the light covers free. Take your time and be careful and it's a breeze to replace them all.

This kit is the closest that I can find as my eBay history is empty.

Same here. I prefer the higher light output and lower drain from the 12 V battery. Opening a door turns on four 5W lights, a 1.67 Amp load with the OEM incandescents. I have put LEDs into each Prius I have owned.

This time I used parts from Super Bright LEDs at a color temperature of 4K. Just slightly whiter than the incandescent bulbs. In my 2012 Gen III I had used the 3K parts.

It really brightens up the interior and makes the puddle lights on the doors useful rather than decorative.

Sorry. Are all the light bulb sizes the same as the older Prius'? i.e. 2010?

I know there are three light bulbs in the dome light, one in the rear ceiling. What other bulbs?
How about the reverse signal light?

    Are there puddle lights ?

    Thank you!

There is no info on the Prime yet, since it's so new but I am wondering if it's very similar to the older Prius

Not quite. The trunk is no longer a festoon bulb, it is the same as the puddle, map, and vanity lights. The rear ceiling is a festoon, same as 2010. There are only two bulbs in the "dome" light, what I am calling the map lights.

See Super Bright LEDs web site. Put in the car model and they will tell you what you need. The Prime seems to be the same as Gen IV.

Replaced the REVERSE LIGHTS on the PRIME to LED's

It was NOT easy. Used the manual. Teach me how to upload photos but there are a few clips that need to be removed. I opted not to remove the last clip and just pulled the black cover back and stuck my giant hands in there. It was difficult because the plug was all the way in the back so you really have to reach and get it. Then, putting the bulb IN was super difficult.

I was left with tons of red scratches on my hands from pushing my hands into the hole. I took photos of the clips needing to come off. There is one clip I did not take off and that was what made it more difficult. I didn't take it off because it was so difficult to and also I was scared I wouldn't be able to properly put the cover back on.

I was laying on the floor the whole time. I Found that pushing the bottom piece underneath helps reseat the cover back. I'll take photos of the led's in action

Now I have super bright LED lights. It's nice because it shows added visibility for the rear view camera at night as well as is very bright so people can see you are backing up. It's weird how the reverse light is so low to the ground.

I also swapped out the rear dome light and the trunk cargo light and the two door lights. I was scared to pry open the SOS map light as it seems that it isn't possible? I'll wait for another brave soul.

Those work for the cargo and doors.

These should work for the feston bulb in the rear. I haven't received those yet.

--- cant even add links. wth

Search the Gen IV forum for a nice video on getting to the map lights. You don't pry off the lens (unlike Gen II and Gen III) but pull the whole module free from 4 clips holding it to the roof. Then the bulbs are removed from the back.

He's talking about the reverse lights, not the map lights.

Read further in his post. He said he did the interior except for the map lights.

    See
for how to get to the map lights. It was a lot harder than the video shows to pull the module down the first time. I expect they did it a few times before they filmed the video.
