Just bought the Prius C3 a couple of weeks ago. Have enjoyed it so far, 500 miles on it now.

I have driven it in mountains, up a canyon that rises 4,000', a couple of times. It is not exactly a powerhouse, but it does pretty well and the gas mileage is great. 60mpg average on the round trip, which I thought was pretty good.

The car does 55-62mpg in town, depending on the number of stops. Not too much highway miles so far, but that seems to be 46-52mpg @ 65 mph, need more miles to know for sure.

Wish the lights turned themselves off with the power button. My last car did that, so you never had to turn on the lights really. The driving lights work this way, but they are much too dim for night driving. Not a big deal, but if a 2011 Kia Forte can have this feature, not sure why the Prius can't.

I find the car handles well in the twisting canyon, feels very secure and controllable.

Noise is not bad, no worse than the Kia Forte. The seats are comfortable and well positioned. I like the central display, rather than looking through the steering wheel. The navigation system is nice, stereo is also pretty good too. Rear cargo area is adequate but small without folding down a seat or two. But most of the time, shopping bags fit ok, without folding a seat.

Overall, I find the car to be pretty nice. The lack of power might make it not so fun to go up a real mountain highway, like the local Grapevine hear, with 4,000' feet of 4 lane highway. But I have not tried it, so hard to be sure. But I think that it would have a bit of a time keeping up with traffic.

Still, I bought it as a town car for the most part and I think it does that rather well.

Congratulations, welcome to the hybrid world!

I find that the car has more than enough oomph here in mountainous British Columbia. It helps to understand that you have a lot more throttle travel beyond what's shown on the "Eco Score" display. When you press the throttle to the point where it fills up the "Power" portion of the graph it's still not actually delivering all that much power. But if you mash the pedal down beyond that, the engine will spool up and give you a fair bit more push. I've had the occasion to drive the Grapevine and had no problems, but then again I'm not one of those "big white signs indicate the minimum permissible speed" drivers.

Of course when you push it hard like that it makes a lot of noise and gulps down a lot of fuel - but in my experience you don't need to do it all that often.

Welcome and enjoy! As for the power, your right - it does seem to be a bit on the lacking side. But it gets the job done. May be my perception, but it seems to be less of a dog if not in "ECO" mode. (To be honest, I've noticed no better mileage with it on or off. But I'm typically delicate on the throttle)
