I'm having trouble removing the little cap that covers the 12v power terminal under the engine bay fuse box. Am I suppose to pinch those two tabs together as depicted in my picture? I've tried, but it doesn't look like it's budging. Does anyone know how to take this off?

It's been a while since I opened ours up, but if memory serves me you need to use a small flathead screwdriver to release the catches/tabs.

Here's a picture of it opened up, but I don't know if it'll help:

FYI, just use the two open terminals at the back of the fuse box for +12v power, the ones with the two red wires going to them in my picture above.

I was hooking up a charger (which I do periodically, our car will often sit for several days), and thought I'd try taking that cap off. Tried pinching the two tangs, and spreading them. Also tried pushing the middle tab. None of the above helped.

I'd kinda like to hook up a quick connect for my charger, so I don't have to pull the fuse box cap off, was wonder what was under there. Is it actually a good point to hook up 12 volt, say for a charger positive lead?

Are you talking about the red cap over the positive terminal under the hood? On my PiP, I just pry the catch a little to release it and swing it up on its hinge end. Here's a screen shot from the manual.

No, that was my first thought too, reading the first post. If you look at the attached pic in that post, it's the piece with the two red arrows. Actually, they're probably indicating the solution, if I could just understand it.

Yeah I use the jumpstart point for my charger, but have a quick connect options, would save wear-and-tear popping the fuse box lid off so frequently.

Mendel, that 10mm bolt under the cover is an always hot +12v connection to the positive terminal on the auxiliary battery. For all intents and purposes, treat it as if it is the positive battery terminal. It would be highly advisable to disconnect the ground strap to the body at the auxiliary battery in the hatch before you start wrenching on it. ;)

So yes, it would be a good place to mount the quick connect for your battery charger, if it has a ring terminal.

Same story here. There's two tabs in the middle of the top, two more, on either side, and a kinda complicated looking hinge down the side. I can get raised about 1/8", and it's got some play but not going any further. Trying to be careful too...

My back told me to pack it in, go in.

…that's exactly what I did on my 2009 Gen II, makes it really easy to connect the battery tender! I used one of the other fasteners for the ground-point.

@xliderider If there's any more ideas you can share re getting that black cap off, don't hold back lol.

By my count there's four release tabs on the top, and down the side a full length hinge, and a similar something-or-other.

I've spent an hour of concerted effort, trying to get it off. With the same amount of success as some puzzles my son got me for Christmas...

You need to get a small screw driver and press outward on these 2 tabs. It's held on by the fuse box case, so you can only lift it and turn it to the side to reveal the terminal.

Thanks, excellent pics! I can get it to lift, maybe 1/8". Pushing at the tabs and lifting at same time. So lift as much as possible and then rotate?

It shouldn't give you a hard time if you pressed out on the two outter tabs. It's clipped on basically and there's a rotating shaft on the corner that attaches to the fuse box case
