Hmm we have threads on Pineapple and Mushrooms; if there is suddenly a chat about Olives I am getting suspicious!

As the debate on this critical issue heats up, I must quote the title of one of Shakespeare's plays and say that you can have your pizza "As You Like It"!!! Canadian bacon and pineapple, anchovies, Buffalo chicken...they're all yummy in my tummy!!!

Yeah....I see people dumpster diving behind restaurants too when I'm forced to travel to some large towns.....and some of these folks really like what THEY eat too.
However (comma!!!!!!) I'm not so easily fooled.......and I SAY THIS as a proud US Navy Chief who has seen the very best and the very worst of military chow. I've also participated in Shell-back and Golden Dragon initiations as well as a full-on CPO initiation......so I feel I have a pretty good working knowledge of the difference between 'edible' and "inedible."

    Pineapple on pizza?

    .....I've never been that hungry.

Not a problem. They prefer Chinese food! Oh, and cheddar cheese.

I'm fussy about pizza, and it's hard to find a place that offers a full range of toppings with a great crust. The usual prefab factory stuff that tastes like the box it came in simply will not do. My favourite is smoked salmon with roasted garlic, capers, and feta cheese. My wife's not keen on any degree of closeness for the next day or so, but mmmmm is it ever good.

Pineapple makes a great meat tenderiser, by the way. And I love it on its own or in fruit salad.

As a teenager I used to love the Hawaiian (Canadian bacon & pineapple) pizza at a local pizzeria.

These days my diet is plant based, no oils. Dr. McDougall convinced me that meat & oils cause all sorts of mayhem in humans, including heart disease and diabetes.

One of the amazing things he teaches is that pizza is one of the most customizable foods. You can order it no cheese, and the reaction is about the same as if you said pineapple.

So these days an order out pizza is no cheese, mushrooms, onions, red/green peppers, tomatoes, artichoke if they have it. Home made is wheat crust, mushrooms, onions, peppers, tomatoes, broccoli bits, and maybe a dusting of soy cheese and fakin bacon. Tried a pineapple, soy cheese & fakin bacon one, but it was just too rich for my current taste.

Hyo, the meat-tenderizer in pineapple is an enzyme that decomposes upon heating. So, fresh pineapple has this effect while cooked (canned) does not.

Yes, it has other interesting effects, too. Probably more suited to the recently revived Sex in a Prius thread....

The Vitalzym proteolytic enzyme blend that I take has bromelain, papain, rutin, amylase, protease, lipase, amia and serrapeptase. Bromelain is found in fresh pineapples.

Proteolytic enzymes are used to digest fibrin, the stuff that stiffens most tissues in people over about 30. The fibrin forms a mesh, particularly in scar tissue, making it hurt when stretched. It took me a number of bottles of Vitalzym and several months to recover from a non-healing ankle strain, but it did eventually work after nothing else did. Google "dr wong enzymes" for more on how they improve all sorts of things like circulation problems and diabetes.

Just want to say, I think Pizza...is a singular term that covers a diverse amount of options and actual end products.

To that end, I love "Pizza" with Pineapple in some combinations. Mostly Canadian Bacon....but I also have had it on Pepperoni. It's delicious.

There are many other combinations of Pizza of which I would NOT want Pineapple on them.

There is a place for Pineapple on Pizza IMO.

Brocolli? Pizza made with bitter goat cheeses? Toppings that sound like they were taken from the sink disposal unit of the local whole foods? And the "Pizza" starts to become something that I personally wouldn't necessarily define as Pizza.
IMO....Pizza should not gravitate towards being too healthy. I don't need proof you can cook anything on a round piece of flat dough and call it a Pizza.

    But Pineapple?
Well sign me up for a Hawaiian Luau!

My personal take on it is that anyone should put whatever they want on a pizza. Different ingredients have been added to it since the beginning of its existence. That's just the evolution of the dish. There are some things I don't care for on a pizza but it's no big deal. No one's forcing me to eat it.

    To each his/her own.

I used to get a Taco Pizza, they would bake the pizza with ground beef and cheese, then sprinkle lettuce, tomato and shredded cheese, I used to really like that one.

Sure from a personal freedom viewpoint I agree.
But I'm shallow enough to say, if we're talking Brocolli, Carrot Shavings, and other things most often found in a Salad? Then I don't really call it a Pizza.
I pay a certain respect to red tomato sauce, "regular" cheeses, and toppings that fall within a certain framework.

I fully understand the opinion. I guess we'll just agree to disagree, even down to the tomato sauce. Unfortunately my wife and two teenage daughters can't do tomato sauce for digestive health reasons. My wife of 39 years carried a gun for a living and the other two are mastering the art of PMS. Telling those women the thing they're eating, substituting Alfredo sauce or no sauce for tomato sauce, is not a pizza would be very hazardous to my health.

Well, I finally have to sound off on this. I have to say, I really like Hawaiian pizza, but I'm not sure it actually qualifies as "pizza." IMHO, pizza has to have meat. If it doesn't have meat, it's not a meal; it's a snack. I guess ham and Canadian bacon are meat, but gimme a meat lover's pizza any day. But if someone drops a Hawaiian pizza in front of me, I'll eat that, too. Just no fish and no chicken.

However, the ABSOLUTE worst pizza ever was at a friend's house in Honduras, a fellow missionary. It's the only time I really needed what's called a "missionaries stomach." This thin crust abomination had a little cheese, a very little tomato paste, pear chunks, whole kernel corn, and TUNA. I like all of those things, but what a miserable combination. It was totally disgusting. I usually eat pizza till it's gone, no matter how much there is. One small piece of that stuff was MORE than I wanted. Might as well put ketchup on your watermelon.
