That is refuted by the fact that the total Toyota hybrid sales of RAV 4 and Prius exceeds the total of all other hybrid cars in the USA without including the the Prime.

That proves my point. Prius sales have been going down the past couple of years in the US, and the Prime can't account for all of the losses. Any growth in the hybrid segment is due to there being other choices. The Rav4 is another new choice this year.

Almost as many Prii (not including Primes) were sold in USA last year as all other manufacturers hybrid vehicle put together. The RAV 4 hybrid (also made by Toyota) added to the Prius sales accounted for more than all other non Toyota hybrids put together according to the latest USA figures.

I don't see how this refutes what I said.
Prius sales have always been high, and it may even have outsold all available hybrids in other years by itself, but its sales have been slipping over the past few years in the US. At the peak of gas prices and incentives, the gen2 sold over 181k in one year. The peak for the gen3 was in 2012 at 147.5k cars sold.

During those periods sales decline, it was the introduction of other hybrid models that helped keep the segment numbers up. The Rav4 hybrid is the second most successful hybrid in the US; the first that might match the Prius sales figures. It had a big impact on the hybrid segment because it was yet another choice for buyers to consider that came out this year.

They got slapped hard for that, and the EPA clarified their rules as a result.
Which is why I think Hyundai will be less likely to make the same mistake. Kia is already publishing different EPA figures for different trims to a model.

The North American Ioniq and Niro are also the ones that delete the 12 volt battery, and may have other advances over the ones in other markets.

Considering people have only had their Ioniq for a winter, the car's numbers are good.

    Oh, yes.
If you follow the links today, there are 10 ioniqs summing up to 5.21l/100km average (45.1MPG), vs 91 Prii with 4.48l/100km (52.4MPG).
Hope someone at Hyundai HQ revise the numbers before the cars get sold, otherwise...cash...

When did the Ioniq go on sale in Europe? Sometime in the fall at the earliest. While the Prius has been available for a full year.
Until the Ioniq users also have a spring and summer to pull up their fuel economy, the numbers aren't directly comparable.

Trollbait brings up a great point about winter versus summer mileage. Jury is going to be out until we get some warmer weather data to compare apples vs apples. As far as the overstated mileage of the HSH, I had a 2012 and sold it in disgust after a year. When it's lifetime mileage is only .7 MPG better than my GTI, something's wrong with their figures. Hyundai should have knocked 5 MPG off the rated economy after the restate, not .5 MPG.

In china the most expensive car is not Japan, but Germany, many Chinese have a superstition of German cars of reliability, strengthen and superiority, especially those age over 40.

you are correct, wait for one whole year, then calculate the figures together, that's more accurate.

It is not only time which is important for collecting relevant statistical figures, it is also number of vehicles.
Ideally this should go above 50 to have good enough sample of different users.
So this will take some time.

Don,t forget HVAC use. Heater can keep the engine running to heat the cabin when stationary, and can affect the mpg considerably on short journeys in cold weather, depending also on whether you have ECO mode set.
