Will a MFD display with gps work in Prius without gps ?

I have an 05 with a cracked display non gps style.

I have a parts car with an 04 gps MFD display that I can put in my 05.

Will it fit and work in my 05?

I know the GPS wont work but will the wire plugs still mate up and will the rest of the MFD work?

Only way to find out is to install it. I doubt anyone else here has tried it.

By the way, the navigation isn't GPS, the maps are loaded from a DVD player under the driver's seat.

Doesn't it still use GPS, regardless? (n)

    Yes, it does. :)

If you've got the whole parts car with the nav setup, I don't see why you couldn't get it to work. You'd just have to swap over the GPS antenna (found way forward under the dash cover) and the nav unit under the passenger seat, as well as the headunit itself. Possibly with some wire-harness merging....

That's what I get for jumping the gun without checking the service manual. How else is the navigation going to work without a GPS antenna. Duh!

I can confirm that the screen will still function as I went to look at a few Saturday and between when the photos were taking and when I looked at it they swapped it with the navigation display and it was just a base and it was working.

Just to confirm for anyone searching and finding this old thread, 2004-05 MFDs share the exact same M13 (the main connector) no matter whether they are base models or navigation models, they are interchangeable*, if all you want is the hybrid/radio/climate functionality. (I had the same problem as the OP, bad base model MFD and I found a good, cheap navigation model in a Pick'N'Pull, and it was plug and play. If I hit one of the navigation buttons, it simply put a banner at the top of the screen stating that the "External device was not attached".)
The base model MFD has part number 86110-47081 (some older MFDs may have 47080). This same MFD is also used in 2006-09 base models with no Backup Camera or Bluetooth or Navigation. The 2004-05 Navigation MFD that is a drop-in replacement for the base MFD, has the part number 86110-47070.
The 2006-09 high resolution (86110-47230) and 2006-09 navigation (86110-47071, 86110-47220) MFDs can only be used in base models if you swap several wires around in the M13 connector (see: Will 86110-47230 work instead of 86110-47081 in 2005 Base Model?).
NOTE: "-CO" at the end of the part number denotes Black trim.

*You can use a non-navigation MFD in a navigation model Prius in 2004-05, but you will not have any navigation display.

Does anyone know if the digitizer screen is removable from the MFD, & if they are all the same? My wife has an ‘06 Navi with a failing digitizer (it is becoming unresponsive to touches) & I have a working spare on a non Navi ‘05 screen.

I just looked at Toyota Prius MFD & Navigation Unit Digitizer Repair @ Highline Car Care on YouTube, and the digitizer appears to be the same as I got for my 2004 nav MFD (they are showing a 2008 and it appears to be the same, swapping screen and digitizer from nav unit to non-nav unit). @04 Prius PM me, I still have the digitizer I ordered and will send it to you. (I destroyed the original digitizer on the screen only to discover that the screen itself had blistered and the original digitizer had been fine--got it in a box somewhere here...--Not easy to remove undamaged!)
