Why a Toyota Prius of course. :D
I love the “sport†of trying to get the best gas mileage I can.

If the dealer had come down another $819, I would've traded my Prius in last week on a 2006 C6 Corvette. Oh, well.

1970 AMC AMX. I could find a really nice one for far under $85,000, which would leave me a lot for playing around with it. Now if I had a lot more to spend, it'd be a different story.

I won't laugh at it. For an ICE that's pretty good! And if you're comparing that to something like the X1... well, there's just no comparison. Can you say 0-60 in under three seconds? If I'm driving a sports car to have fun, this is the kind of fun that I'm after. There hasn't yet been made a street-legal production car that can beat the X1 in the standing or rolling quarter mile. (not that the X1 is in production yet, but at least it is street-legal!)

Just so I can have a roof and doors, I may have to switch my answer to the Tesla offering. That it is currently IN production is a bonus. I'll have to suffer with 3.x 0-6 times, but I'm willing to be a martyr.

    Darell, over.

Well I wasn't compairing it to a non-production car so much a sthe Prius having 295 ft punds in the electric motor. I certantly couldn't've of used my Rx-7 as an example of torwue as the rotary only makes a max 160 ft lbs and thats at 3500 RPM after the turbo spools. It certantly isn't torque, but much faster than many cars with plenty more torque to offer. I was saying I've driven a high torque low HP car, and a high HP low torque and the HP is mor eof factor than torque and this guy seemed to say all you need is torque for fun but you'll need hp with the torque for it to do anyhting.

Ah. My bad. I'll rephrase it. "You want fun? You really need an EV."

My point about torque is that the X1 will go 0-60 in under three seconds in the same gear that it'll go 124mph. No clutch. It offers more HP and torque than most people know what to do with. That's fun.

What's an EV? It can't be that "fun"(by my standards) if it's in a Prius (not dissing the prius but we all know it's not a sports car)

No, the Prius is most certainly not an EV. EV stands for Electric Vehicle.
See here: http://www.darelldd.com/ev/ for the cars I've owned
And more specifically, here: http://www.darelldd.com/ev/wrightspeed.htm for the X1 that I've experienced.

I've already given you the 0-60 time of about three seconds. If that isn't "fun" by your standards, I've GOT to know what is. I'm not a high-speed guy, but I'm certainly a high-acceleration guy. The X1 has an electronic limiter at 124mph - and it reaches that well before the quarter mile. Even with street tires, and even on a wet track. As I've said before - it'll beat any production gasoline car in the quarter mile. Still not fun? Did I mention that it gets the equivalent of about 170mpg of gas equivalent when driven on the street? This is why I call the Prius my gas guzzler (thought I'd tie that into your screen name).

The X1 is not some pampered vehicle. The designer/owner drives this every day (when it isn't raining!) as his daily driver. I had the pleasure of spending the day with him, and can now honestly list him among my friends.

Oh, and I don't think I mentioned. The X1 makes 1500 ft-pounds of torque at the rear wheels - at ZERO RPM. Yes, I got the decmimal in the correct place. How long do you have to wait for max torque in a gas engine again??? :)

It is like (silently) being shot out of a freaking canon.... and then actually having control. ;)

OK... enough OT. Thanks for humoring the EV Nut.

But either the X1 or tesla are still my answer for this thread!

Bad knees so sports cars are out...too low! The new FJ Cruiser is a fine looking car but I think it was well put before...give me the money and some time off. A trip abroad is far more exciting!

OK this is easy for me. There is one choice, from a misspent youth. I would have a vintage Sunbeam Tiger. For those of you who do not know picture a MG or Triumph with a 289 Ford engine under the hood. After that it would be a classic Mini.
The Carroll Shelby design team removed the Sunbeam Alpine1.7 liter four cylinder engine and replaced it with a small block 4.2 liter Ford V-8, similar to the way he transformed the AC roadster into the Shelby Cobra, and production began in England in 1964. When Chrysler acquired the Rootes Group, later, they were dismayed to find one of their most popular cars, the Sunbeam Tiger, was "Powered by Ford". This low-budget, high performance sport car captured the hearts, and pocketbooks of enthusiasts. Although production ceased in 1967, with less than 7,000 total made, the Sunbeam Tiger sports car is still sought today as one of Hemming's top 10 collectibles. The power of the Ford V-8, along with many performance options offered by Rootes, still burns up the street and tracks today, winning the SCCA GT2 class in 2000.

I have to go with darelldd here. I'd wait for the X1. Can't imagine a more fun car than that!

Just for educational purposes gasguzzler, the electric motor that is in the Prius is what separates it from other "economy cars" and makes it quicker than you think and more fun to drive than other similar gas only cars. Not quibbling that it isn't a sports car, not by any stretch. But if you really want fast, give up on the gas and go electric.

Darelldd can tell you a lot more about this than me, but you can turbo, supercharger, modify your gas car all you want, you won't be able to touch an EV for accelleration.

I don't find the new ones to be very attractive, but in my mind, V10 that revs to over 8,000 RPM somewhat makes up for its appearance. :p

    I'd get an Elise.
