Toyota Owners Web site -- is it the most screwed up -- or am I just lucky?

Seems that most times that I try to access my car records on the official Toyota owners Web site, it comes up with some new way to frustrate me.

Today, apparently, car information is a high security thing. So, I have to create a total new identity -- new, extra special password, new login name, etc.

Really, my car information is basically available to anyone who wants to peer through the window and copy the VIN.

In the past, the site has just randomly rejected my sign-in attempts, even with a supposedly valid account, so I was not too optimistic with changing all my account details.

And, of course, it all goes bad. It won't accept my "OLD" password because it does not meet the NEW criteria. WHAT?

And, it won't accept my old user name, as it does not meet the new criteria.

I basically had to tell Toyota that I forgot all my details and they let me enter new details that, of course, meet the new criteria. And, then I had to change them again, just because.

I finally got it all "fixed, but I know next time I try to sign-in I will still get a run-around.

It would not be so bad, but to recreate the account you have to put in all the VINS. With three different Toyotas, that is a pain.

The user name is now your email address, create any password you want, it's not a security issue. Cyberprius#1 would be great for you to remember

I'm glad you wrote this cyberpriusII.
I was planning to abandon using the Toyota site. Too much hastle.
However, I'll give it one more shot.
If Toyota screws with it again, I'm done.
I'll just keep paper copies of my repairs, and not worry about user names or passwords.

Not sure about the owners' site, but I noticed last week that techinfo seems to have moved to a different provider for credit card processing, that seems to work marginally better than the old one. Small steps....

So, what I may not have made clear in my original post.

I try to sign into my Toyota owners account yesterday. It does let me.

The site tells me Welcome Back.....but for my protection...they are ramping up security...so please enter, after already signing in, once again enter

    My old username

    My old password

    AND THEN CREATE

    A new username

    A new password

    Both must meet new criteria
    ________________________________________

Well, I put in the information and up pops a box telling me my old username and old password don't meet the new criteria -- well -- duh -- WTH.

Went through that none ending loop about six times before I gave up.

Well, at least I am not the only one who has experienced frustration

BUT, what I really was looking for was the total specs on my vehicle -- not repair records, but the total listing of options, etc. on my particular vehicle -- and I could not find it.

Seems to me they used to have that -- but maybe not...

At any rate, you think that they would offer it. But, no, that would be too logical.

Hmm, considering the problems on this forum.

I think the Toyota site and PriusChat could get a friendly little competition going. :ROFLMAO:

TechInfo was upsetting my FireFox browser recently, saying something about it being unsecure? I just had to give an exception to allow it.

I tried once again to reset my password.
It appeared to work, but I'm not able to login.
I was; however, successful in deleting the app.

Interesting, I was in just last week and nothing made Firefox suspicious. If you see it again, there might be (depending on Firefox version) an option for more information, in the insecure-site dialog that pops up. That might explain more.

Maybe one of their SSL certificates expired recently and got replaced. There seems to be a solemn tradition among webmins to always leave out one step, or get one thing subtly wrong, when updating a certificate. I even usually observe this tradition myself. :) Something about one of those tasks that only comes around every few years, so you always remember almost all of it.

They have portions of their site coming from at least three different domains (toyota, snapon, and their credit-card service) so any one of them could have had a slight misconfiguration. Probably they'll eventually catch it, if they haven't already.

I had one problem that the transmission oil change was not listed under the service history. I contacted the service department who did the work and it got fixed by listing the original work order as an attachment.

My online "service history" is virtually blank; don't much care. It shows:

12 volt battery replacement around 12 km

Mounted snow tire purchase and install around 3000 km (should say 300, they misread odo)

    Inverter recall

    Brake master cylinder recall

    Air bag recall

I tried several times yesterday but kept getting a "Service Not Available" message. I will try again today.

I just spoke with a Toyota representative and was told that the Toyota Owner's website was down due to maintenance issues. The system has been up and down for the past few weeks. They do not have an estimated time frame but he told me keep trying every 24 hours or so.

Plans are to display a message on the website indicating maintenance issues but this has not been completed yet.

    Stay tuned.

Thanks for the effort, but I was actually wanting the specific options on my specific vehicle.

I DO have hard-copy sheet of that information filed away, but I wanted to send the information to my gmail account. I have meant to do that for a long time so it would be accessible from pretty much anywhere -- much easier to copy and paste, rather than scan and paste. :)

Would have come in handy a few times.

I tried. If you knew your package & options the brochure would have helped.
If you are like me, just because something is "filed away" does not mean you can find it easily... :(
