I got a 2017 Prius 2

    After a little more than a month, I finally got a Prius 2. I was very close to getting a Prius 3 Touring 4 weeks ago but the numbers didn't add up in the end. The Toyota safety sense features and the laser/radar cruise control on the 2017 model were what moved me to a 2017. The other consideration was I wanted a second year Gen4 model thinking that Toyota would have worked the kinks out of the first year of the gen4 Prius.

    It's a blue crush with floor mats and had 3 miles on the odometer when I took delivery. After reading the less than stellar reviews for the navigation system I figured I would just go with a Prius 2. I will probably add the after market synthetic leather seat covers in the not too distant future.

    I really like it. Not just the gas mileage but the seats are very comfortable up front and the car is pretty quiet with regards to road noise.

    We traded in our 1012 Prius v5 for a 2017 Prius 4 Bliz White with Sun Roof (not touring) last Nov 2016. Driving the Prius 4 noticed right away road noise was dramatically reduced to almost super quiet. We attribute the noise reduction to the tires and possibly use of noise dampening material.

    Other driving features were the positive steering. For me a 1/8 - 1/4 steering wheel rotation and front end was in a smooth quiet move to the right around a corner.

    Welcome to PC. 50+ mpg!
    Lot to read about from 2016 posts.

    I have navigation, but use Waze gps from my phone.
    It lets me know if other users reported police, or road hazards up ahead!

    Congrats and well.
    I bought my 2017 Two for similar reasons. Mine had 2 miles when I first saw it but 9 miles after my test drive. We won't talk about the 150 mile drive home at 59 mpg.

    I went on a somewhat extended trip. Not many miles around 50 but with AC and cold weather and hills I managed 54.8 MPG in my Prius. Very impressive fuel economy. Here is my only suggestion so far. A dual clutch transmission to improve acceleration to a more respectable 7 seconds or less 0-60. I know most Prius owners do not care and like the CVT. Considering the Gen 4 is a departure from the bland and basic styling both inside and out in the gen 3. I am most proud of the "J" in my Vin #. Japanese made, Japanese assembled and Japanese quality.

    Anyway, pics to follow in the next few days as requested from a previous post.

    I have named my Prius the Shogun.

    With respect, a CVT will be faster in acceleration than a dual clutch. I think what you want is a more energy capacious battery or one that allows faster charge/discharge to give you the acceleration. A more powerful motor would help too.

    Hyundai has a Sonata with a dual clutch "eco" is the version. It has the best acceleration with the least horsepower of all of the Sonata's and is the only version with a dual clutch. Those sub 3 second 0-60 cars achieve those numbers only with a dual clutch transmission.

    I just drove a little over 100 miles in 32 degree weather and achieved 58.6 MPG. I will take the Prius as is with that kind of gas mileage. A CVT makes up gear ratios. The Honda Accord Hybrid was my second choice. It has a CVT transmission and sounds like a go kart under heavy acceleration from 0-60 in about 7 seconds.

    It's just a great car.

    What about the new one-way clutch in the Prime? Wouldn't that improve acceleration?

    That is, in essence, adding more electric motor power (without having to physically increase the size of MG2 or increase the tightness of the wound). So, yes it would, but it'll be limited to the capacity of the battery.

    The reason why it works on the Prime is because the battery is larger than what MG2 can output but still less than what MG1+MG2 can output. You can't run the engine in this configuration because MG1 is used as the counter balance (to prevent the engine from overspinning as MG2's rpm increases) as well as used as a starter motor for the engine and to recharge the battery when excess engine power is produced.

    Congrats! I just got a gen4 Four with ATP and PCP and love it. First Prius ever on my resume. I too was looking at a Two or Two Eco but decided on a 4 because it had the heated seats. After driving/riding in my gf Camry, I totally wanted heated seats which is only avail in the Four. The ATP and PCP options was just splurging. But after owning it for just 4 days, I've realized DRCC is another feature I can't live without. I believe those are standard now in gen4. Being able to cruise from 65 and have it come to a stop for you if highway traffic comes to a stop is just I can't Imagine life without it.

    Good to hear. Remember, you'd still be expected to intervene if you thought it necessary. I found the more I'm use it, the more I trust it and that could be dangerous if it ever stops functioning like it says on the tin. Happened to me once and completely cured my constipation, I can tell ya. ;)

    Oh for sure. I sometimes scroll through the ranges so it'll slow down earlier. I actually had a scare yesterday thinking it wouldn't as cars came to a top abruptly. It stopped but indeed it could be a constipation cure lol

    If you thought that when it worked properly, imagine what you'd think if it didn't even show down! That happened to me after it lost the car in front on a curve. I just expected DRCC would pick up as usual.... it didn't and I hit the brakes myself. :ROFLMAO: No real danger because I WAS ALERT.

    The dynamic radar cruise works very well. I would not use it in heavy traffic unless you set it for setting 3.

    I still set it to 1 in heavy traffic. To me, setting 1 still leaves so much room even if cruising pretty slow(10-15mph). People cut in and of course it slows down again to keep distance then more people cut in and it's a never ending cycle...but better safe than sorry

    I have increased my efficiency with my Prius. I am now getting 58-60MPG
