i'm a transportation designer/mechanical engineer myself. doing my time in kettering university, and then hopefully ACCD or CCS. keep drawing, and definitely draw from observation. what art classes are you taking now in hs? you'll need to build up a nice portfolio, but it depends on which design college you want to go to in order to see what you need to put in your portfolio (designs vs. fine arts) keep in touch, maybe we'll design stuff together later on in life!

haha yeah I messed up big time on that drawing (rear wheel was too big and front wheel is too small so the wheels are the same size even though the car is angled. You should see a pic I take my time on. Right now I am taking some art class I do not want to take (special design or something) so that I can take AP art next year.Maybe we will, when I buy a Mac 2 years form now (senior year) my uncle who is an engineer may get me a copy of the $2000 Adobe studio package as well as Auto CAD. Probably just the Auto CAD as he updates which versions he has once every 3 years and would give me his older one after I get the Mac.

Just for the record--I doubt most of us ever thought all 16 year olds are whiny etecteras--hell--seems like we have LOADS of delusional whiners who are LOTS older than that! What is heartening is seeing how many like you guys are coming up to unseat them! [IMG]
Oh, and by the way, I'd pay either or both of you way more than $8/hour to come teach my kid how not to be a whiny, delusional 18 year old! [IMG]

Congratulations for having a plan in life GasGuzzler87. Lets hope you execute it as flawlessly as you have planned it. Being 43 now, and looking back when I was 16, I was quite the smart lad, or so I thought. Life seems to have lots of ways of showing you humility and lessons we would have never dreamed of back when life was as simple as a plan...

But, its good you have a purpose and direction in life. I think it's good as most don't. Carry on.

For once, I agree with Squid.

I may have to use 240's line with those people in big honking cars that pass everyone, then get stopped with all the people they just passed at a red light.

    Thanks, 240!

The talk of 0-60 times and quarter mile times is extremely relevant when you're talking about racing (until the point where of course you pass 80-100mph since that's beyond what the quarter mile times represent). Basically it tells you what the car peak performance is. If a Prius beats a car which the numbers say will out perform it, then there was SOME factor in there that allowed the Prius to win. And that factor is NOT the car. In most cases that factor is the other car was not racing. In other cases it's driver error. But the thing about driver error is it comes into play more when the cars are close in performance. When you talk about a car that's far better in terms of performance, driver error isn't going to matter or if it does cause someone to lose a race, it's not a race you can really claim victory for).

The Prius drivers in question probably DID believe that the other party was seriously racing them, but like I've been saying (and a lot of other people) it's obviously purely from the numbers that the other party was NOT seriously racing them. "Numbers don't mean anything" is what a lot of people would say, but the answer to that is, it actually means everything. Sure a Prius can beat a Viper when the driver is new to manual and he stalls and has to restart his car, stalls again, restarts again and finally starts going 30 seconds later. But can a Prius really claim victory when that happens? It's like if my car beats an Enzo in a "race", I know the Enzo driver either was a horrible horrible horrible driver (so bad that claiming victory over that driver is pointless) or the Enzo driver wasn't racing me.

As for the hybrid stuff... Well, we have to wait and see where the electric technology goes. If we can manufacture an electric car that can actually go long distances on a single charge, that's probably the future right there. But you're right; hybrid technology will be useful in the future but I think too many people see it as "the solution", not part of the solution. I see hybrid technology as an "aid" to whatever true solution we can hopefully come up with.

Finallly GasGuzzler87... I don't want to sound like a dick, but I thought you might want a honest opinion of your artwork. Judging from that one picture you've posted (and how long it took you), your technical art skill falls in the "quite good for the general population, not so good for people pursuing art as a career". But I think in art, it's more creative vision that's important than technical drawing skills...

And now for a reply (gasp) on topic.
    1) Side mouldings - to protect the finish on the doors.
    2) Mud flaps - to protect the finish behind the wheels.
    3) Rear bumper protector - to protect the finish when taking and putting things in the hatch.
(are we sensing a pattern here? :p )
    4) Remove wheel trim rings - because they're fugly.
    5) Sharkfin antenna - to hide the XM antenna.

Still trying to decide on a clear bra or a deflector for the front - to protect the finish. :D

I understand where you are coming from, but we can agree to disagree. If a runner falls on a track in a race, he still loses, even though he fell. The winner doesn't not take first place because some fell down. In the game of racing, things happen. Like I said though, all of this really doesn't matter, no one thinks that a Prius is a true sports car, no matter what the results of a race are.

Why isn't hybrid technology useful now? What other technology is available to anyone in the US that will get double the mileage of a similar sized car? IMO, it is the only solution avialable as of yet that could be the solution because of the breakthroughs necessary for ethanol to supplant gasoline or the infrastructure changes needed for another type of fuel like hydrogen (in addition to the breakthroughs). I guess we shall see how it all ends up.

Bottom linel, is your right, it's a Prius, which is a fun little car. No matter how many modifications you make to any car it will always be that kind of car, what's your point?

Be careful of allowing moisure to get under the front bra...

In racing it is actually the 60 foot, 330 foot. 1/8 split and mph, and 1000 fot splits that come before the 1/4 mile and mph marks. The 0-60 time means absolutely nothing. The one exception to the splits that I mentioned is that some 1/8 mile tracks actually have a 594 foot timer for the sandbaggers at the big end.

I dont mean to argue you on that, but unless your site is way out of date, I hardly believe you have the most "pimped" here. You might want to check out what "TheForce" has done. If anyone is a Prius Mod God, its him. Ya, you put on some nice suspension....but thats about it. Wheels are nice also. Stickers all over the interior dont count as a mod. I'm not dissin your car or anything like that, you just sounded really smug in your comment, and I just wanted to give you a little heads up before it comes back around to you.
Yes, laugh at his "Racing Hubcaps" many have, I still do, but its all in fun. Like every other month or so he posts come crazy amazing mod that he's been doing though.
