    I am sure the Tesla people would love that idea of just giving it a quick look. I've been around too long for that. The people at the location where I will pick up the Tesla I'm buying have probably bought and sold fewer cars than I have by now. I am quite scared about the level of experience and knowledge that I will encounter in a service center that was just opened this year.

    I bought a new Prius 14+ years ago and the only reason it runs perfectly right now is because I do the ICE maintenance myself. I have upgraded the tires instead of using what the manufacturer recommends (thanks to information at Priuschat.com which has possibly saved my life and definitely made it possible to avoid accidents on ice and wet roads) and so my Prius now handles better than at the time of purchase.

    Each time my Prius has been recalled, the people working on it returned the vehicle to me with broken parts. I do not feel like doing the typing required to describe more of what has transpired over the years.

    I am expecting to have a better experience with Tesla but "BUYER BEWARE" clearly applies in transactions with Tesla.

    i think you'll be fine. they have a good rep, and very few problems. there isn't much maintenance, so that shouldn't be an issue. check out their forums, they are helpful, but not as fun. i'm jealous, all the best with your new tesla!(y)

    Thank you. You are on the mark about Tesla forums. Priuschat has been a fun venue for learning about my vehicle. Tesla forums I've been reading so far lack that aspect. As for helpful, useful information may be found, but it takes time. For example, this site: Tesla Model X | Tesla has no search function! Maybe I've been spoiled by Priuschat, or else I am familiar with higher standards for a forum as a result of being here.

    Tesla is a great car in many aspects. More reliable then a Toyota? Not so sure.

    I am seriously considering keeping my Prius for backup/home generator use. Plus I save over $100/year on insurance since the insurer knows I am the only driver, thus I would likely be on the road with the less expensive vehicle some of the time!

    The Prius gen 2 is the most reliable car I have ever owned.
    That said, the Tesla is the most convenient car I have ever owned, even taking the "issues" our Teslas have had.

    I expect the Model 3 to continue to improve the reliability rating AFTER the shake down period all manufacturers have with the first model year. I doubt they will reach Prius reliability levels for some time yet. It is a very high bar.

    I've probably done better than most people with having reliable cars. Partly perhaps as a result of buying them as new cars (with 2 exceptions) and not getting any model unless it has been around long enough for me to think most bugs were worked out. A used 1953 MG TD was the most impractical and unreliable car I've ever owned but I have never seem or had a car I liked as much as that MG! I still miss it. Maybe, some day ... when I no longer need a car very much, I could find another one ...

    Meanwhile, I'm hoping to use the Tesla X to replace my cargo van and tow my motorcycle trailer. If it breaks down on the road, I hope and pray it will be at a time when I have the bike along for backup! If it breaks down frequently, I may need to get a smaller trailer for the bike so that I can always have it with me! Or see if a Zero motorcycle could fit in the X.

    Also, how do you navigate the Tesla forums that lack a search feature?

    I never liked the appearance of the later models. Besides which, my Prius holds 3 (horse size) bales of hay very securely for transport with that rear end spoiler! Since it is out of warranty by now, I feel freer to state publicly how I've found it useful!

    Oh the X won't break down on you. It tends to be little things. Door handles on the Model S, that sort of thing.
    Early on, with the S there were a fair number of motor replacements. Most of those, almost all, were replaced due to annoying sounds and not failure.

    As far as Tesla forums, I recommend Tesla Motors Club.
    The official Tesla site has absolutely horrible forums.

    I keep getting such irritating behavior from the Tesla employees so far that I have serious reservations about completing the purchase. If the people associated with the service centers are as bad, I do not want to have to deal with them for the foreseeable future!
    I'm reconsidering purchasing the Mercedes GLE 550e Plug-in Hybrid instead. Any experience with this vehicle? I am going to search this site after posting this message.

    That is surprising.
    I've had phenomenal treatment at Tesla from both sales and service.
    I am sorry to hear about your experience. I would suggest sharing your experience with the store's manager, or Tesla corporate.

    @Zythryn: I did involve Tesla corporate. I needed tire specifications for my auto insurance. I have learned to not trust what is said or put into writing and so I asked for pictures of the 4 tires that clearly show the sidewall information. The store manager sent 4 pictures of the same tire but with labels to indicate that the 4 pictures were of the 4 tires on the car. I told that person at Tesla corporate that the dishonesty on the part of Tesla employees gives me grounds to cancel the order and have $2500 returned to me. The tire pictures are by far the clearest evidence of their dishonesty. The person in California, Tesla corporate, still was insisting that all 4 tires are identical on the vehicle! He even consulted with a "Product Specialist" about it while on the phone with me and again insisted the 4 tires were identical! Some time later, today, I received 4 new pictures and this: "The rear tires: 275/45 The front tires 265/45
    All four are 20” Continental CrossContact LX Sport tires. My apologies if I was not specific enough before and this caused any confusion. "
    The above message was from the "Owner Adviser" who had been insisting that all 4 tires on the car were the same.

    Obviously, the tires are the same at a different level of information than what I was seeking. They are not the same when you consider the specific details I was asking them to provide.

    MB is not a bad choice
    Consider mandatory battery assurance also
    For little more Money you could go on 12 cyl engine
    If MPG is not your concern
    I have BMW M 760 2017
    With electro magnetic shocks...this car is totally different animal....Old generation was hydraulic not bad bat this is so much better
    Car is scanning road ahead and adjusting continuously

    From experience on my brother Tesla P100D in Europe that i have some power related issues they for time using him ...
    They sent two Tesla technicians and fix right in my drive way

    Tesla's "Ranger Service" that comes to your location, for a fee, is one aspect that strongly appeals to me.
    I have some concern about mpg and the environment, such that I would not go back to just an ICE for a car. I also want the towing capacity of an SUV.

    Lot of assumptions in all that. Just because YOU, or some others are getting a 5 minute quickie out the door, doesn't mean everyone is. We were at our pickup appointment for OVER TWO stinking hours !!

    She-who-must-be-obeyed had lots of questions - and the folks were knowledgeable & helpful. fwiw, i'd have LOVED to been out the door in 5 minutes. If any one feels they're being rushed to sign papers prior to taking possession, that's their own dang fault. How hard is it to simply say, "no looky .... no sign'y"
    what . . . . you think they're going to say, "take your $100,000 and get the h outa here" ?? nope, you do what everyone tells you, and it's at your own peril.

    Exactly right - & i let S.W.M.B.O. know with NO uncertainty - you buy a car that's only been out for a short time, you are guaranteed to pay the price when it comes to fit & finish. But that works for me, taking it into the shop is a frequent excuse to get to drive it !

    Some owners complain, but when you, the manufacturer, are the only game in town, you get a lot more grace, because owners have no other equal car that they can buy. GM enjoyed the same position in the early 1970's. Then Honda Datsun & Toyota came along. They would have never gained a foothold had U. S. manufacturers been more concerned about a perfect delivery. The rest is history.

    I am not the type to become a member of the Tesla cult of "Awesome!" "Excellent!" "Wonderful!" and all the rest of the superlative words that are inserted at an abnormal frequency into conversation by Tesla employees engaging in what I call "Tesla-talk". The Model X would meet my needs but I find that the hype spoken by Tesla employees and some of the business practices of the company reek of a scam operation.

    I am in the process of moving to my future home in TN. Do the Tesla employees there act and sound like they are in an altered state of consciousness?

    the fact is - whether you go into a Peterbilt Factory - a Lion's home building tract - Kroger grocery store or anything else - you will get the same treatment about how wonderful things are, because their stuff is the best. why wouldn't you expect the same sleazy thing fromTesla. Does the Ford dealership tell you that their PHEV is not up to par when compared to the Volt? of course not .
