I want a Tesla and tried convincing myself that a Prime would suffice.

Hate to ask, but what happens to CO state incentives in this case, which I thought may be $5000 or so.

That's a great question and I'm unsure. I can ask my CPA when I get that far with a buyer.

    $34k?

If I may ask, a person can get a new one (yes they have to wait) for $33,100 less $4,500 federal and less $2,516 CO tax credit. That's $26084 + $895 delivery and other fees + total sales tax. (Just under $29,000), why pay $34k?

I didn't factor in any rebates/incentives. I need to ask my CPA how that works.

So I paid just over $35. So let's start at $34. Deduct CO of $5k & federal $4,502.
Car selling price is roughly $25,500.

OK that it is nice deal. Somebody will come over from neighbor state to get it.
Keep in mind you don't have to give away all the state credits, but that's nice of you if you can.

When PiP came out in 2012, West Virginia was giving $7500 tax credit, so some folks here got PiP's for as low as $15,500 after state + Fed Tax rebates. Some sold a few years later for $20k so if someone is from out of state it looks like a good deal, also if the state ends the huge credit (like WV did), you are sitting pretty if you grabbed the generous credit before it expired.

True especially for Federal credit...the state credits would each have their own rules. But if the orig owner is going to pass on those credits in the form of a lower asking price, its a win for the used buyer.

especially a buyer who doesn't have the taxable income to take advantage of them, and no red tape.

Well you get it back in credits at tax season next year. This is assuming you owe more than $4,500 in taxes. If it's less than $4,500, then it's up to whatever you owe.

Either way, you may want to finishing asking your CPA all the questions first before selling the car.

Things are becoming clearer....I thought that you had a grand plan to (try and) sell for 34K and pocket the Fed + CO money while no one was looking!

OK, so Costco is doing the Advanced for 32.5 right now I believe. You have 9,500 of credit coming from the Feds and CO, is that correct? I am pretty sure that you are the only one who can get them, It would not be my color choice, so are you willing to sell the car for 22K with the charger? You have to deal with getting the tax credits and you end out with $31,500. Sorry if you paid $34, but that is not what they are going for new anymore, I do not believe.

Just trying to get the bidding started for you, and I MIGHT even do it.
