Hello. My prius is only 1 year old, but the GPS software version is from 2004. Subsequently, when I drive on certain roads, my GPS shows that I'm driving over fields, bodies of water, or even airport runways! I need to update the DVD, but when asking the local Toyota dealership they have no idea and suggest I contact Toyota directly. DOes anyone know how often Toyota releases revisions of the DVD, how much they are, and if there are alternatives to getting it through Toyota?
    Thanks

The problem with the data being out of date likely has more to do with the gathering of the data, itself, and less to do with the version of the nav DVD. Data providers will sometimes let an area go 4+ years without updating the information.

Yes, and add to that the time from the the update by the provider of the navigation data and Toyota producing the DVD. The 2005 DVD used for the service campaign to replace the 3.X version had a 2005 Toyota copyright but 2003 TeleAtlas and Navtec copyrights.

Your 2006 DVD is not compatible with the original poster's 2005 Nav system, because of the change in the screen resolution between these 2 model years.

its stale data that may not be better. even the 06 version may not have newer info. i have a nav system for my laptop i use in my car and its also from may 2004. (some of the data is even older than that)

I was never successful making a backup of my 2006.

But I have two 06 prius's.. I found a certain freeway where the nav tries to tell me to exit two exits too early,

But my other prius does not... they both have DVD versions 05.1.. so I don't know whats up with that?

But that anomolly is consistent whenever I go there.

What happens if you switch the DVD's between the two Prii? Does the anomaly stay with the car or go with the DVD?

A good idea!.. but this location is a ways away and I rarely go there.... its close to the dealer... I just recently had to go in for an issue and had to take the car and bring the other car for a ride back.

As long as thats the only thing if find, I'm not too worried about it, but it does suggest that maybe there are diffrent "builds" to the same version?

My 2006 was out of date the second I bought it. A highway 1.5 years old was non on the DVD. So suck it up and wait for the update.

Does the "wrong" nav actually show the wrong exit in the turn guidance?

If not, have you tried the "tire calibration" procedure in the Nav for the "wrong" car? You select this from one of the menus (I forget which, but it may be in one of the "general" ones, not the nav ones). Then just drive off.

It's possible the nav is temporarily losing GPS reception and relying on tire-rotation data to estimate the exit location.

Now thats a thought?... where is the GPS sensor?... I assumed the little lense in the back left is for the light.. and my inspection sticker is over that, so it throws off the time the dimmer light want to self engage,

But as far as the gps... it that it in the middle behind the metal grate?.. or is that a speaker?

Sorry to be so ignorant, but I have never taken the time to really investigate that.

I assumed the tire calibration was already done at the factory and since I've never changed tires is should be good... but it will be fun to redo it.. I'll check that out.. thanks!

What it does it show the next three exits and then specifically tells me to exit the first one.. if I exit, it then tells me to get right back on the freeway again and skips the next exit and than prompts me to exit at the third and last exit which is the one I need.

I don't know whats up with the first exit.

That Tire Calibration wasn't in an obvious place... in the the "nav" manual, not the regular thick one.
Its on page 88 & 89 if you have an 06.

You access it from the setup menu and you have to scroll all the way down to see it.

Look underneath your driver's seat. If the nav system functions, the DVD is already loaded. Should have been loaded before you took delivery, if it came preinstalled.

Well I looked on both rigs a little deeper and found they appear to be running the exact versions:

Nav version.... Aisin Aw V 1314100C

    Disk version.... V 05.03.14
