Cracked Tail Light!

Thank you! I appreciate it, but this truly better be covered under warranty. Have had several Toyota models and never had this problem before.

 

I took my car in on July 7th for the rear cracked lenses, and they took photos and agreed nothing hit my car from the outside. They said they are sending the photos to Toyota, and that I should hear back from them in 1-2 weeks.

 

Did you wash your car in the sun on a hot day?

 

Possibly, but I live in Florida and have done so with all my cars and never had this problem before.

 

Well it could be thinner plastic or heat builds up inside more then others, they look like stress cracks from heat to me. Always wash in the shade. Glass can crack too, if its hot enough outside.

 

I just wanted to share the photos of the cracked lenses before I take the car into the shop. Friday they are replacing the rear brake light lenses under warranty.

 

You had better luck than me. I have a Prius C as well - 2012 model - and noticed water in the back trail light. I took it in - they wanted $231 for the assembly so I called Toyota HQ to ask why it wasn't covered by the warranty. They said it must have been hit. The car has not been hit - if so it would have left some kind of mark or damage - especially at that height. But they won't cover it. I am a very unhappy Toyota owner - first a recall... now light casings that spontaneously crack and fill with water. Any advice?

 

Im lucky that my tails are still fine. I hope they dont crack, but that will give me reason to upgrade them.

 

I have water inside of mine (2012 Prius C) and I have the extended warranty. I took it the dealership and they told me that Toyota won't cover it. That extended warranty is a big waste of $

 

I have a 2013 Prius C with water in light. Tried replacing assembly but the middle part of the light is stuck. I removed the screw but I don't know how to undo it.

 

The screw I am talking about is on the inside middle part of assembly.

 

Drivers side rear on our 2012 C failed. Water in the housing, no visible cracks, no accident. Not replaced under warranty. We bought a new one and replaced ourselves. I am sure it was a manufacturing defect. When I noticed it, the mileage was well beyond warranty limits.

 

I have a set of tail lights from a 2012 that I am selling. I looking for $50.00 for the set plus shipping or local SoCal pick up. They are in excellent condition. I removed them to install after market lights. PM if interested.

I am a newbie to your group. (1-6-20)

I have a 2012 Prius C four...and my left tail light looks like a goldfish could happily be swimming in there. This happened after a couple of days of rain. The clue was when someone pointed out to me that my reverse light was not working.

It seems as if the plastic pulled away from the car body...inches from where the trunk is. The repair dept. at three Toyota dealerships said they never heard of this problem before, and they seemed quite sincere. I got the phone number for customer relations (800) 331-4331, and a service consultant at one location said to call and see about a Goodwill repair, even though my car is now a bit more than seven years old. (It was built in Oct 2011.)

BTW...the dealers all wanted to charge me something in the range of $650+ to fix both sides. The right side light is still OK, but I can see moisture inside so I'm pretty sure the same thing will happen there too.

I'd appreciated any comments or suggestions you have. Thanks!
