    Hello

I'm looking at installing "fog lights", but just for the DRL. IMHO fog lights never made much of a difference in real life fog driving, but I hate the looks of the plastic "filler" where the fogs should be. So it's just for cosmetics, but I do want the LED DRLs to turn on at all times whenever the car is turned on.

I'm thinking it should simplify wiring considerably if there is no need for "on-off" switch in the interior of the car. Has anyone done this?

    Thanks!

Somebody also popped out the blank fog light panels and painted them body colour: looked pretty good. Actually, to bad Toyota doesn't do that: they do for the tow hook covers.

    Found it:

Thanks for your responses. I bit the bullet and ordered a set from ebay; I'll plan on posting DIY for those looking to just get the DRL going.

I bought a Cheap Chinese Junk set of Prius fog knock off made in China from Ebay. Got them yesterday and played with them a bit. The light is quite bright...I was impressed...but how long they'll last is to find out. Anyways, the seller didn't package it well enough and one of the tap was broken off (note: they didn't use ABS plastic)...I JB welded it back so I think it'll be okay. But for 1/3 of the price and that include a wire harness/switch, can't complain too much ..

I'll try to install them today.. Probably not even going to bother with the switch...Just hook it straight to the battery and use a relay to control the on/off in synch with the car (car on = fog/drl on, car off= fog/drl off).

Yup. Bought from the same seller.

Got it installed this afternoon. Took about 1.5 hrs or so...could have take about 45 mins but I wanted to wire wrap all lines and make it look stock.
Quality is quite good. Nice and bright. Once installed, I can't tell if it's oem or aftermarket.
Let's hope it will last. Btw I didn't use the orange option

Due to poor packaging, one of the bracket broke off. I had to JB Weld it back... all good.

Closer look at the broken piece

all fixed and installed. Right side. Due to the windshield fluid reservoir in the way, getting to the top bolt was a little tough but reaching from the top with the right tool, got it right in...2 minutes job.

Left side..No problem with installation issue here.

    Light on...

I'm also suspecting that this cheap Chinese junk doesn't properly UV coat with the UV protectant so I will coat it with this stuffs to prevent it from turning dull.

Here is a pic of where i tapped into to get power to trip the relay to turn on the light. The light is powered directly from the battery.

Cool! (y) Overall quality looks good!

So, What was total dollars spent on the Chinese fogs?
You may have a bunch of other non-Touring owners following your lead!

How do they work, are they fairly effective? Not totally in jest: I would consider installing something like this and not wiring it up, just for the look.

Thanks Steve. Costs $249 total (US seller). You can buy it from alibaba for $218 but that's coming from China...may take a while. It comes with a harness and switch so you don't spend extra on those like OEM. I ended up not using the switch but a relay to control it on/off automatically.

Basically for looks. They are good for what they are, fogs and DRL. They're quite bright and do light up the road a bit more but the Prius LED headlight is quite good already but you can tell it's brighter..especially right in front of the car. Anyways, if I were to drop $250 on a set of fogs, like hell I would wire it up...and I did :D

Our OEM 3rd gen fog lights are like that: look good and provide marginally better low/periferal light. I was a little disappointed.

I carpooled for a while with a guy that had a Supra. That car had excellent fog lights.

The 4 gen led headlight is damn good (bright). You really don't need more light. It may be too bright that it over shadow the fogs. But anyhow the fog/drl are for looks basically IMHO.

the Ebay seller finally got more in stock and sent me a replacement light since the one I sold me got a broken tab (which I JBwelded it back and use without issue). Great service!!! Now I have a spare :)

The lights has been going strong. I leave it on all the time. Both fogs and driving lights on when car is running. So far no issue. I guess LEDs should last a while.
I recommend buying from this seller if in case you're looking for alternative set of fogs at 1/2 price of OEM. His eBay name is "jomical_0"

Glad they stepped up, and sent you a replacement.
By just doing that, I'm sure others here will trust the seller, and buy.

Now, on to the next mod! (y)

I got the last fog light set from eBay seller before Memorial holiday?
Yet, the Illustration diagram shows concfused info.
There are two separated Yellow wires which has no marking.
Are they the fog lamp positive + lines ? (A-1)
What type of relay can be used in the (C) ?

looks like a gen3- there is no button place holder in the gen4 to pop out and replace with a fog light button. Also the gen3 fogs were round

    After reviewing the typical automotive relay of 87a, I have conclude the followings,;
DRL lights will go to fuse box under the front hood attached to IGN 10 A fuse, (add-a-wire)
    Always ON
Fog lights, the two yellow lines, will be the load of the relay 30-87.
My question can the switch harness red and black wires act as 85 to 86 ?
    Attached is the relay info.
