Lets see how it holds up. Something more permanent (vinyl) was quoted at $650 plus tax.
I did this with 3 cans of plasti dip, a few plastic drop cloths and a roll of painters tape. I did swap out the shark fin with a color keyed oem fin.

    fin: $30
    plasti dip: $15
    painters tape: $3
    drop cloth: $5

    total: $53

That looks fantastic! How did you peel off the tape without compromising the edges on the dipped surface?

well when I am at home its in a garage
I took a vinyl flat edge and pressed it on the plastidip on the car where the tape met and then pulled the tape. The tape and plastidip broke on the pressure point. I slowly moved along the length of the line

    Cool,

I did another car in plastidip.
You can always remove, and return back to to original later.

This would fit in with @krmcg and his black and white color scheme.

Pinstriping the edges can take care of any compromised spots.

Who gives a shit? I have a black prius in Georgia and I'm so over hearing people lecture me about how black cars get hot in the sun. that's why windows roll down and air conditioning exists. Live a little! After all, white cars look like rental cars next to a sweet, black beauty.

The only thing i can think of is that because it is flat black it might heat up a bit more than reflective black? I dont know. Its on the hood and roof anyway. The hood is going to get much higher temperatures coming from the engine, the roof is somewhat insulated from the cabin.

In my past schoolboy physics lessons, we learned that dull black surfaces absorb and radiate heat more efficiently than white shiny surfaces. I remember we used to measure it with boiling water in tin cans, one of which was painted matt black. It involved some juggling numbers around on a blackboard with chalk to get a definitive answer...... Zzzzz

I decided to do a little more and I perfected the way to get a clean line.

The best way to do it is to mask everything off in such a way to allow for a disposable edge line layer of tape. This layer should:
    1. only sit on the car surface or another layer of tape because you do not want to be yanking plastic cover with it.
    2. is the layer that defines the edge you want to create

Now the way it works is that immediately after you spray, you pull this layer off the car. Wait for the plastidip to dry and then you reapply this layer following the plastidip line and set up for the next application. You would repeat this for as many layers as you intend to spray.
