I've been visiting this site for 6 months now. Now I guess I should start posting. :p

3 weeks ago I ordered a 2006 Prius, Red ext, Black int., with Package 4. Today I got a call from my dealer, saying that it will arrive next week.

    So fast!

Makes me wonder, did I make a bad decision on color and package?

Well of course this answer is biased but in my humble opinion you will go cwazy with glee once you see it. I absolutely love mine. In fact, I believe it is the sharpest looking one available.

(oh oh.....I guessed I am setting myself up to be flamed now) :)

Seriously, the Barcelona Red is a very elegant and kewl color. Don't start second guessing yourself.

    Just enjoy it.

    I sure am.

Red is in my humble opinion the very best looking color available. If I did not have to deal with this hot(116 today) temp. I would not have ordered silver.

Great Choice I love mine. I have had it six weeks and am happy as can beeeeeeeeeee. Package 4 (if you don't want the gps and hd lights) is the way to go. I will be getting aftermarket leather next month which was the only other thing I wanted. The cool part about the color is that it just jumps out at you in bright sun light.

 I hope you didn't! Mine is scheduled to arrive this week and I also ordered option pack #4 (barcelona red). The dealer had another vehicle on the lot in B. red and it looked great. I called the dealer today and asked him to order a front end mask to dress it up a bit, but have read other posts that say the 2005 mask won't fit the 2006 due to a slight modification on the lower front end. Anyway, good luck with your new Prius.

I'm biased, but I think you made a great choice.
We have the Barcelona red, # 4 and love it (even in today's 101 degree heat). It is an elegant, jewel-like car, whose color and lines suit each other.
Getting package 4 gave us VSC, a valuable safety feature, and additional features can be added as needed, or as improved upon. Next year we will have some time to travel, so will look at a Nav system (that can be used while driving, lol) and SYRIUS.

Enjoy, you are about to take delivery of a car that will bring you hours and miles full of smiles and enjoyment, and maybe a touch of feeling like you've done a good thing.

Not at all - Barcelona Red is BEAUTIFUL, especially with the charcoal interior, and package 4 is a very good choice - not only do you get the side airbags but also the Vehicle Stability Control.

Have fun driving your red beauty!

(I WANTED a red pkg 4 with charcoal interior, but needed a car ASAP because my old one was dead; I settled for white with charcoal, #5.

Commenting with a completely unbiased opinion on the color (I am the proud owner of a Blue Prius), I think you are making a great choice by picking the Barcelona Red. I love my Blue but when I first saw the B. Red I thought it looked extremely sharp. Be proud of your choice in color! Plus... the dark interior will look really good with the Red.

Slowly, and somewhat grudgingly, I've come to like all the Prius colors except black, white and Salsa (no offense to anyone; remember: there's no accounting for taste! :p ) I originally disliked driftwood pearl, but now it's in my "top 3", as are seaside and Barcelona. (I have a silver, too, but it's not in my Top 3 any more. Boooorrrrring!)

I have an '06 red #3. Put two coats of Zaino on it last night. In the sun (105 here now): dazzling.

Good choice! Don't look back! :)

I think you will love the Barcelona Red. I know I do. My first choice was silver but my dealer had a red one on the lot and I liked it a lot better. He said he could get me a red one with the options I wanted and I said I"LL TAKE IT! :D

ghostofjk did your car look like a brighter red after putting on the Zaino? I know mine did. But I also put 6 coats on. B) 3 coats of Z5 Pro, 3 coats of Z2, and a coat of Z6 in between all of the coats of Z5 and Z2. Topped it off with Z8.

I quite like the red, in fact, I was this close --> <-- to getting a red one over the white. The deciding factor? No idea =D I can't see what color the car is when I'm driving it, so I could have gone with anything!

NO! NO! NO!!! Good choice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I felt like red was the ONLY decent color for this car, and I went with a 2004 Package 7 (which had all airbags, smart key, VSC and HID headlights). I felt it was the best value, because the safety features were the most important thing for me. I couldn't afford a loaded one (the only other package with VSC), so I am PERFECTLY satisfied with my car!

    :)

Thanks for all the replies. :) I asked this question because my Prius will come A LOT earlier than other Prius my dealer ordered, and I wasn't even ready to buy it (cash flow + car loan issues). Makes me think that this combination is very unpopular... Now I guess I have to get ready real soon.

I think the Magnetic Grey is by far the best looking, but Barcelona was a solid #2 for me. Whatever flips your noodle.

I can't see why you won't love it. :D I have had my red package 3 for over a month now and it still is the coolest car I have ever owned. Everyone talks about how high tech it is and I only have package 3. Let us know how you like it when it gets here. pcflorida

Sounds like a great choice to me. You are lucky to be in a region where Pkg 4 is part of the menu. Our sales rep had to go to extraordinary (and nearly superhuman) lengths to get us a pkg 4 in New England earlier this year as it wasn't "officially" being offered and the regional Toyota management kept rejecting his request to "preference" that model. It's essentially the entry safety model. I really like the '06 red, and wanted that as our first choice, but my wife rejected it (she once had a red car that kept getting hit and views that color as bad luck).

You will love the car. I opted for pk #7 for several reasons:

    1. I am on the cell phone A LOT - bluetooth is AWESOME. Once you have bluetooth in your car you will never go without it. So if you use your mobile phone a lot - consider it.

    2. Back-up camera. We have it in our Sienna minivan and since then I won't go back. Cars with high tail ends makes this that much nicer. Yes you have lived without it since day 1 - but once you have it, it becomes another must have - especially if you hate having to twist your neck like an owl when you park. it also helps since the side-view mirrors dont tilt when you put the car in reverse. i have learned to use the back-up camera as as substitute for my inflexible side-view mirrors.

    3. DVD-Nav - my other two cars have it - i wont buy one without it - ever. It is just too convenient, to integrated, to comforting not to have. it is also covered by the Toyota warranty.

    4. HID lights - where i live the lighting at night is not always in all areas great. my other cars have this feature and i find it helpful - moreso as i get older and my night vision becomes less stellar know matter how many carrots i eat :D

If you are purchasing the car like i did than it is easier to amortize the extra cost of the package over time. if you are leasing for less than three years it becomes more cloudy. You may find that having pk #7 will increase the retained value of your car too?

I waited extra for the pk #7 and have no regrets 4 months into ownership. I absolute love this car - i am sure you will too

I had the same exact fears at least on the colors.

I originally ordered a silver one, but with the VA Clean Fuel plates deadline approaching soon, I jumped the gun and bought the 1st available package 8. Turned out to be a Red with Charcoal grey inside.

My wife and I first saw another Red outside the dealership when we went to pay for the car. It was cloudy that day, and the red looked real cheesy. Due to the clouds, the car looked like a cheap bright red, much different from the older more distinguished Salsa red.

Not realizing that the red changed so much from last year, we went home sad knowing that we'd have to drive a cheesy looking car for the next 10 years. We figured we needed the car sooner rather than later, and didn't want to wait another 2-3 months to get the perfect color.

Went to pick it up on Wednesday and was very pleasantly surprised with the red color. The clouds totally skewed how it really looked in the sun.

The interior colors choice was another matter. We were promised that the interior would be beige, but turned out to be the grey. Turns out that we like the grey better anyway.

All in all, the car looks great. It's a bit of a chick-ish color, but I'm secure enough to drive it. ;)

    You'll like it I'm sure.

I do think that the Red isn't as popular for some reason.
