NAV system map updates

I have a 2014 Prius Plug-in Advanced with the technology package. It was delivered with a 2013 database. It is in for its 30,000 mile service. The dealer called and said there was a 'Radio update' that they did for no charge but wanted to charge me for the map update. As I service all my 'Toyota's' there, they gave me a 'special price' of only $150. My wife's Acura costs about that much from a DVD.

I have to say that for $150, that's a very good price for a Toyota Nav update. I remember doing the same update on my former 2012 Prius PIP Advance and I paid $169 just for the activation card. Because of a communications issue between the parts department and the service department they did not charge me for the labor. However, on a car equipped with the HDD based navigation system my local dealership charges an additional $99 for the labor. We are talking about $290 in total including tax just to update the HDD based navigation database. I know of another dealership that wanted to charge me over $300 in total for the update. This only applies to the HDD units, the ones with the DVD you only pay the $169 in my area. I am not sure if it works out like that for the ones equipped with the SD cards.

If my database was really old and my area had undergone significant changes in the last couple of years; I would definitely do it for $150. I am one of the few people who actually prefers using the built in navigation system so it would be worthy it for me. I am very aware there are cheaper alternatives if you go aftermarket or with a less expensive phone mount so you can use Google maps.

I got some additional information. They installed Toyota Service Bulletin number 0108-15 which updated by base software to version 08972 from version 06842.

I have searched for a copy of the service bulletin to see what it does or improves but cannot find it.

Does anyone have access to this information?
