Battery voltage of my prius prime advanced after 1 month

    Can anyone take a look at my car battery's pics below? I have been driving my prius prime for a month. I usually charge my car overnight, and normal drive in EV mode between home to work. I also have gotten the zus charger plugged in my car. Somehow it shows the battery voltage on the app. I was surprised the battery is going down from 14.8v to 14.4v. Does it seem good or bad for my battery? Anyone have any opinions or tips for me! I really don't have any experience about the car because the prius prime is my first hybrid car I'm driving. Thank you.

    If the 12V battery is that high, the car is over-charging it. I'd prefer to see it at 13.9V or so during operation. That said, 14.5V or so is common among car companies. I guess they like you to boil off your electrolyte.

    This has nothing to do with the hybrid/Ev battery, which is kept between 350V and 400V.

    Ohh!! I usually charge my car from 7pm to 5am on weekdays, is that ok? Does the car will auto turn off charger when the battery's full? It always count down on screen 6 hours charging for the battery when I plug it in.

    You are looking at the voltage of the 12 volt battery for engine starting, lights, wipers, etc. You aren't looking at the voltage for the traction battery. The traction battery supplies charge to the 12v battery as needed. Plugging in your car charges the traction battery. A 12v battery actually has a full charge at 12.6 volts. Expect to see 137. to 14.7 volts into the 12v battery to put a charge into it. It is twelve volts in name only. At 12.0 volts it actually has a 45% charge.

    I'd check the 12v battery with a better quality volt meter. I don't know enough about that USB device to trust its calibration.

    Just to be clear, the 12V battery is not "engine starting". It's "computer system starting". The engine is always started by the traction battery. But I'm sure you knew that already, just were not very clear about it. ;)

    Nothing to worry about when inverter is active that are voltage you should see....
    The way inverter on Toyota is working is looking for voltage spikes...and how much current is drawn when your battery is getting charged...
    And once it come to predetermined specs..inverter will step down and keep checking on battery voltage
    This is for 12 V battery (not Hybrid )

    Has anyone had any problems with the 12 volt "Aux." battery being dead after the car hasn't been driven for 4 days?

    i think there have been a couple issues. covered under warranty iirc.

    Welcome. I would not expect that on a new vehicle. I'd take it back in and get the battery tested. Even a brand new battery off the shelf should perform better than that. Don't externally charge it up before going in. Let them see it in poor condition.

    I have done that once already. I took it in, they replaced the battery, now the dealership is saying if I'm going to leave it parked for more than 4 days I need to put it on a trickle charger???

    They say the fans for the hybrid batteries are running all the time to keep fumes from collecting in the car.

    bzzzzz! wrong!!!!! i leave mine every winter for 5 weeks, no problemo.

    if you want to take control of the situation, buy a $15. digital multi meter, and measure the voltage daily.
    however, it is more than likely that you just had a defective battery.

    Also, you should read the owners's manual. It would have answered all your questions plus the ones you haven't thought of yet. Also, there's stuff in the manual that you probably need to know to properly use and care for your car.

    This is total BS. I suspect there is a current draw somewhere. Time to get detailed and picky. Do you have "anything" plugged into 12V ports in the cabin, I mean anything? If so unplug them. Have you done any wire splicing, or modifications of any kind? Something is pulling power 24x7 from your 12v battery.

    If you want to find if there is a drain, charge the battery, then disconnect one battery terminal. Then 1 hour later, measure the voltage, then measure it 4 hours later. If the voltage has only minimally dropped, the battery is not the problem. From there you can measure continuous voltage drop at the reconnected battery while you pull fuses, or you can take it back to the dealer and tell them about the battery disconnect test above and tell them to do it.

    Could be unrelated, but I've encountered a bug in the Prime software that can, under certain conditions, make it leave the DRLs on all the time, even when the car is off and you've been out of it for a long time.

    If your use of the car is sporadic, and it regularly sits for multiple days, it's worth hooking up to an appropriate smart charger during the idle times. Also yeah, at the least, get a decent multimeter to monitor voltage, with the car off, preferably after sitting overnight, and not right after charging, when it'll read high, due to what's called "surface charge".

    For a much fuller assesment of the battery's health, not just the the voltage, look into something like Solar BA5 tester.

    That sounds like pure BS to me. Ask instead, am I not closing all the doors, trunk, listening to radio while in standby, forgetting to shut off (ignition) leaving fob in or in close proximity to car?
