What's there to improve on? Honestly, I can't figure out anything Entune is supposed to actually do. Can't you just use those apps on your phone and play the results through the car stereo with Bluetooth?

it's supposed to sync with your phone, so you don't have to actually use the phone in the car, including talking, texting, music, email, web searching and etc.

Hyundai and Ford have both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. I would guess that would be typical with other car makes also, why offer only one and alienate the other group. Or be like Toyota and be an equal opportunity alienator.

That's the problem with all these safety devices on my new car, I'm waiting for the next accident, and/or car theft, or other disaster, hopefully. I want to see if this safety stuff works. Bring 'em on!!

Toyota should not be going it alone and they should be working toward true integration with both android and Apple phones. I have had factory NAVs in the past and they were awful. I want to be able to see my phone NAV on the screen with verbal prompts from the audio system, real time traffic and updated maps.

Let car companies design cars and allow others that are better at providing phone apps provide those services.

I don't know what Toyota is thinking unless their management is 80 years old and believe that they know better than the people who will actually be purchasing cars in the future. Perhaps the next feature Toyota can come up with in the audio realm is an AM tube radio with a built in phonograph player.

I think you could get a similar system on a 1956 Desoto.

Hey now, that Desoto is probably worth a hell of a lot more than our Prii, especially with that tube am radio, har, har, har! . And don't laugh but vinyl records are making a comeback in my industry! I'm with you, Toyota, as a forward-thinking company, should offer a setup that would accommodate 3d party GPS devices from specialty companies like Garmin.

So, I got my Prime on Friday, and I've discovered a few things so far in this area:

First, binding my phone (Galaxy S5) with Bluetooth was a snap.
    The contacts transferred without issue.
The car asked me if I wanted to give it access to my messaging applications, and I said yes.
I have since controlled my phone's music app from the car's touch screen and received emails through it as well. Haven't got a text while in the car yet, but I would guess that would also work.

All of this is without downloading the Entune app or signing up for Entune or Safety Connect.

I also used the factory navigation and it worked without issue. Yeah...it's still a pain to set a destination by address, just like it was 13 years ago. I haven't tried the vocal commands yet. They didn't work worth a darn on my 2004 and, in my opinion, they don't work worth a darn on an Android phone either, using either the Samsung app or the Google app.

Aw come on now; I'd just call it "Brazilian Retro" and leave it at that!

I would think you'd have a better chance at speaking with the Pope than you would with their Holinesses at Apple!

Samsung S7: try it for voice command; it eats Apples for breakfast. Yes my son, there is hope in the Android Future. Yeah, but circa $700, OUCH! The future is expensive!

As I understand it, "OK Google..." is basically the same on all of them. Pretty good for dictation, lousy for following commands.

Lee, I have used the S7 also for setting appointments, and looking up info on people or places and continue to be impressed with the results. I generally kick Apples to the wayside too. You can tell, I'm slightly competitive! Har,har.

My Euro "Prime" has this and the free phone based version of the car Nav software "Here Maps" had allowed me to do this for years, and workout the expense of buying another physical device . But Google Maps is better. Not going to say again here why, this had been discussed so many times in various other threads.
Except to say that phone nav software also does walk guidance which often found very useful indeed.

It's clear that each region has its own headunits with its own functionality. I think Here Maps is part of Navteq now??

In addition, the U.S. just started using a Connected GPS set up (called ScoutGPS). It runs off your phone (like Google Maps or Apple Maps) and displays it on your headunit.

Once I got used to them, I find the voice commands work ok with the car. You do have to say exactly the right thing otherwise it just says "Pardon?".

I'm amazed that you don't think much of Google voice commands. On my LG G4 with Android 6 they are so good it's almost scary. The only downside is that it won't work when I'm out of range of a network connection and is very slow if the network data connection is slow. It obviously sends a lot of data over the network and the smartness is in the Google servers.

One thing that I don.t understand about voice commands. The Euro manual shows no way of telling the car whether you want a voice command to be processed by the car or by a connected smartphone. It just says to press the voice button, wait for the beep and then speak, for either case.

In practice, the car only recognises that commands are for the phone if I say "Ok Google" first.

I think the manual may be at fault in this respect. The car must surely need a way for the driver to indicate which kind of voice command is being issued?

a split screen with car play on 1/2 of the 11"s also I would be willing to pay more for it. I added a new radio to my 2010 in 2016 to keep my car one more year. Just waiting on the Prime to come out. it helped me. finding it hard to not have car play. I have added a mount to my car to hold my iphone 7+ to use it for its maps and siri. seams odd with the nice 11" display there and not use it.
