Thank you for the information. However, that means there is now 2 or 3 bad airbag companies?
We can put several men on the moon, but we can't find one company to produce a good reliable safe airbag and components.

If it were so easy, US companies would be manufacturing them. (n)

I got my recall notices for the parking brake and airbag about a week before Thanksgiving. I then made an appointment at my local Toyota dealer for December 6 (yesterday) to have the car 'certified'. According to the service rep, Toyota had not pre-shipped the replacement parts for either recall, but would ship them on a need basis.

I took the car in yesterday to a service department that was more jammed than I had ever seen it. They were able to do the brake cable maintenance and the replacement airbag is now on order. There are at least 2 other 2016's at this dealership also awaiting the airbags. They had no estimated date for when the parts will be in.

I agree with you I brought my car in THEY fixed the parking brake recall. They called me and said the AIRBAG recall would take 1-2 days and they would give a free rental. When I brought the car in they said it would be ready around 2pm gave me a ride home. Then they called. They have to take the WHOLE dash apart!!!and they want to put everything back correctly. I doubt that. So I rescheduled for my next service. Anytime they mess with your dash it's never the same. So thinking about letting it go.

I agree with you about the dealer messing with the AIRBAG. I don't trust them taking my car(dash, etc) apart. I'm leaving mine as is. I had the parking park corrected when I had service. It helped I noticed that when cold the engine would kick on and move a bit in park ( when cold) in winter. But now seems fine. I agree that is bad to leave car when in D but happens and the Prius electric cycle is silent. It took about 45 minutes for the fix (by the dealership) But the AIRBAG issue I will not at this time trust the dealer to remove the whole dash. My dealer said they would need at least a day.

Me neither. If mine gets the recall ( wife's) then they would be doing the airbag recall. Can't be botherd with all the potential hassles afterward.
My own truck had a recall for passenger ceiling airbag. It's been outstanding for the last 15 months. The occasional visits to the Chrysler dealer, I state that I do not want this done. They have to notate it on their system each time I visit so that it does not get done. I don't want them tearing up my interior thank you.

Thursday, I got a call that my passenger airbag was finally in (I had the car examined in December and the dealership somehow messed things up so that they needed to reorder in mid-February after I inquired). We scheduled the installation for Friday. Installation, of course, involves tearing the dashboard apart and then putting everything back together. I brought the car in and picked it up about 4:30pm.

Everything looked O.K, but I discovered that AM and FM radio didn't work (although all other audio options worked). So I returned to the dealership. Fortunately, the service department had not quite closed up so they were able to reconnect that cable. I drove away again and tried navigation (which I hadn't tried on the first run). The GPS failed with a red diagonal through the GPS symbol on the map. So, I brought the car back in. However, by this time, there was no one to fix it. However, we arranged to have them look at it on Saturday (I live about 1 mile from the dealership). They connected it on Saturday and did mention that there are actually 16 different cables that needed to be disconnected and reconnected for the job. That sounds like the back of my A/V receiver!

So, if you need to get this work done, I recommend thoroughly checking out all navigation, phone, and audio systems before you give your O.K. By the way, I only needed to reset the Navigation settings that seem to fail on every reboot (compass map view and splitting the Nav display between a map and Turn-byTurn). I also created Station lists for AM, FM, and XM, but I may have never actually created them initially.

I think you need to find another service dealer if they found it so easy to mess up. Did they use the showroom receptionist to reconnect things?

Just had the work done. The 10,000 mile service, the emergency brake (yes it is the parking brake too ;) ) and the airbag took 6 hours while I waited. Gonna do a fresh post too right now on this expereince.
