    Sorry if this question has been asked earlier, but after reading the fragile male ego posting, I started wondering about the male:female ownership ratio.

    I am female. I think the most the Prius drivers I've seen so far (not many, and I've only been looking since I bought the car about 2 weeks ago) have been men.

    I don't think it's chick car either, but here in Florida, it certainly is an OLD person car!

    It will be interesting to see how this shapes up. Around here, I see about a 50/50 representation. With all ages behind the wheel. The one thing they seem to have in common is the smile on their face.

    B) hi i'm a male and love my prius.i don't think it's a male or a female car .i think it's just a good practical car and more people will take the hint to say to heck with those oil companies that think they have got everyone in the palm of their hands .they dont. cause people will eventually get tired of paying the 70 plus dollars to fill up their gas tanks! i believe hybrids namely toyota will leave the american car makers sitting at a standstill somewhat. i am a good american but when it gets so that gasoline and how much can they get from the american people then to hell with them! have a good day to every one! ;) pete

    I was going to ask about age too, but that poll has already been done.

    There were two different postings about age. One was a poll, which showed the majority of Prius owners as being around 40-50 (I think). But there was another posting where it just asked the question (no poll) and there were many replies from people in their 20's. The next largest population of responders was the 50's. They were in different forums -- don't know whether that accounts for the discrepancy or whether it was because one was a poll and the other was just a question asking how old you are.

    I belong to the 50s group.

    Well, though I am a guy, it was only after my fiance test drove the car and gave her thumbs up that we made the purchase. She loves it as much (if not more) than I do. :)

    Same goes out here - ALOT of the Prius I see are driven by Sun City (and equivelant) residents.

    Also worth noting, both my folks and aunt/uncle are in their 60's and drive a Prius. The Prius w/ my folks though is my mom's car, so add one to the girl's side there. :p

    The ratio of men/women though would be 60/40 men/women just by observation.

    We have a fairly current poll on M/F. It shows 22% female (over 200 responses, I think).

    Seems to me a somewhat disproportionately high % of newbies the last 3 months have been female---at least those who stay and post.

    Might this be skewed by the numbers of registered persons on the board of each gender. Also what about other genders? Can we, should we, leave them out. It is all very confusing now, one does not know what to do?! This I know you have offended someone, somewhere. That is sad.

    Which proves that all this current poll is doing is showing the ratio of male/female posters in this thread. That is all. My gut feeling is that forums such as PriusChat are more commonly populated by males than females.

    I am not sure this is an accurate poll. I know several gals who own a Prius, but they just are not interested in chatting online. I'm sure the same thing could be said for many guys too. In order to verify whether this is a "chick" car or not, one would need to sample the general population, including senior citizens.

    Well, I have to agree it is not an accurate survey of Prius ownership. Of course, this poll is only polling the people that are chatting in this forum, and there might be more male members because guys like to talk about their cars, maybe. On the other hand, a lot of women like to chat online. But right now the poll is running about 3:1 male:female -- and I don't think that in general men participate in forums three times as much as women.

    I think age would be as much of a factor as sex, if not more, when it comes to who is online. I would imagine that the largest demographic would be young single people (probably guys) and the next largest would be people in their 50s and older. Everybody else in between is too busy working and raising families.

    I've often wondered whether polls like this may not be applicable to the 'general public', based on a prejudice that the kinds of geeks who browse internet forums and POST are more likely to be male. I would guess that the people who do internet searches for certain topics are a lot more likely to be 50/50 men/women.
