When we bought the Prius v it was mainly so we could take our two goldens on a long trip to our winter cabin. I removed the rear seat and bolted an angle iron (light gauge) as the support frame. Then bolted 3/4 birch plywood to the frame and 3" foam on top. This gives them/us a 6ft x4ft padded area back there. There is lots of storage under the plywood, and I do know about the cooling vent for the batteries.
We will put a comforter on top of the foam for easy cleaning. At the rear of the Prius there is room for a small bag of dog food, a container for water, 2 dog dishes, and on the other side a 2 gal gas can for emergencies, for us or to help other people.
Either of us could lay in the back if we get tired while the other drives, (not the dogs) Hehe.
The trip is about 1300 miles each way and the Prius was our 1st choice of many vehicals that we looked at. Picture 103.jpg Picture 102.jpg

Pretty nice. How about a picture without the dogs from the back?

Thanks rjparker, I think it looks nice too, also no questions at the border crossing into the US or Canada.

I love this photo! I am considering a 2013 Prius v for my three Labs, so I was heartened to see that your two Goldens had enough "head room".

Yes, there is enough headroom for them also with the two goldens in the back there is enough room for one of us back there to relax while on a long trip.

    Have you started yours?

I put a smallish Great Dane in my cargo area with no trouble.

    Looks nice.
I believe some people have found the Prius needs 3 gallons of gas after running out. I have not tested that personally.

Do you mean 3 gallons to run again when it gets empty?

I dod further research and stand corrected. (Both refers to Gen 1 & Gen 3 Prius)

I've started both Prius with just 1 gallon after running the tank dry. The three gallon limit is just to turn off flash, which professional 'dry-tankers' don't care about anyway.
