Hello everyone. After waiting a month on 2 lists and being told 3 months and then 5 and then 8, I found a Silver #7 in N CAL, $ 300 BELOW msrp!! I should be picking it up this coming weekend!!! I will have to go up and down several hills(6000 ft) on the 300 mile trip back home. Any ideas about breaking it in ? Are the hiils bad for the car so early on? And, finally, isn there any Prius meet planned in the SF Bay area? Thanks.

Just drive it, the hills won't hurt a thing. Keep the speed below 60 and have a great time. Congrats.

The owners manual says simply to avoid high speed. Okay, it also says to avoid hard acceleration and hard braking. There have been several threads on break-in recently. The figure of 60 mph has been widely circulated and refuted here. I drove mine 1000 miles at 72 mph the first day. My car seems to love me. I would do it again without hesitation.

Given the long waits and gouging by some dealers, below MSRP seems unusual at this time. Are you getting a TRAC car or is it new and undriven except perhaps for regular demo?

It is totally new!! It arrived in port (Long Beach) on the 7th of July and is expected at the dealer on the 16th!!. This dealer has NO wait list at all and can get one inabout 4 weeks after the order. This one had been ordered but that person took a different one(#9). I also found a dealer in the SF Bay area who only has about 12 people on the list and claims he can get one in 6-8 weeks. I have a deposit with him but decided to get this one as I liked the color and the option, plus the $ 500 break he gave me convinced me. He also seems very honest and doesn't add any extas and actually advised against buying an extended warranty!!!, saying the car already comes with a good one. It also helps that he is the Owner and not a salesman.

Review and take with you the following checklist: http://www.vfaq.net/docs/pickup_checklist.html

Also allow yourself a half-hour to read the "before driving" section of the owner's manual and at least skim over the rest of it before your tear out of the dealer's lot.

Some dealers like Thayer in B.G. Ohio were also willing to go below MSRP to make a deal.I got 480 off from them.
