An eloquent suggestion, indeed. BTW, for all those interested, I called Toyota regarding the next update. They told me that they update the GPS DVD every November and that I should wait until then to order the new disc. However she couldn't tell me when the latest update occurred for the map data. She also told me that the price is not set by Toyota, but at the individual dealerships. This means one should shop around for the best DVD price. Interesting...

I have been able to backup my Pruis DVD. I am running the backup copy now. When my Aviator's disk was out of date, I was able to "borrow" the new version from my dealer and make a copy of it that is now in my aviator and has been since Jan of last year.

Lincoln wanted $499 for the update yet the manufacturer, navteq wanted $199.

I have no idea what toyota wants for it or who they use for the nav data, but I don't have to worry about it until the new update comes out.

Here is the link for every other car manufacturer except for toyota to get the newer disk without the dealer markup.

sounds like everything else... they have to mark it up to make a profit... I wonder how much profit?

I don't mind paying for it since there are tons of research and troubleshooting to get a good DVD nav working right... I'm amazed at how good it works... but how much does the dealers think they need to make off of toyotas work?
