    Red triangle !
Rear fan blowing when start the car
Red car and ! on center display
    vsc light
    Circle with exclamation
    Check engine
The AC needs to be replaced
    Codes: P1116, P1121
    167,000 miles

The car starts and the rear fan goes on right away. We changed The 12 volt battery all warning lights still on. The car lags, will go 10 mph then up to 40 mph no power uphill.

Any service centers in Gilroy/San Jose, CA area that are not the dealership. Is it worth keeping? How do you know it is the main hybrid battery malfunctioning?

    Thanks, Kim

    welcome!
the fan blowing is usually a sign that the battery is bad. but it could just be clogged. are you too far from luscious garage or art's automotive?
the definitive way to find out what is wrong is to have the trouble codes read.

I'm in Gilroy, CA. Is there a thread on how to check the fan?

What's wrong with the AC? I also think you have a failed hv battery.

But you also have a failed 3 way coolant valve, that would cause the check engine light to stay on

See attached picture from automotive place. Here are the notes:
Checked from and found low EVAC and recharged now compressor is making a loud noise. Checked for AC codes found one for compressor in error followed diagnostic procedure. Checked condenser fans made sure they are working good. Suggest replace electric inventor/compressor then recheck

The prius cannot be charged like a regular car. That shop probably put in a foreign oil in the AC compressor. It takes a special ND 11 oil when needed.

If there's a guarantee/warranty on the AC work, it would be good to get it. The damage is probably over $2000 to the AC system.

You may want to have the Toyota dealer address the AC system and Bill it to the shop that ruined it

Simple answer to a complex question. Your Hybrid battery is going bad. Soon, the ECU will turn off the hybrid system and the car will experience driving problems as the gas motor has little or no torque. The only fix is to replace the hybrid battery. This has nothing to do with the a/c system. I have had the same problem with my 2006 Prius, so I speak from that experience. Take to the dealer or if you are mechanically inclined you could change the HV battery, either way it has to be changed.

You have multiple problems with your car, the hv battery is just one of them.

    1. AC SYSTEM
    2. 3 way coolant valve
    3. Coolant temperature sensor
    4. Possible HV battery failure

1 and 4 are pretty expensive to address

You can address the hv battery problem, a rebuilt battery will run anywhere from $500 to $2000. Still gotta get the codes read, I didn't see this failure code, just the symptoms

That will get the car running again, but you'll have to eventually address the other issues

I didn't see the trouble codes the first time I read your post, just read the part about the rear fan and slow acceleration. I know those two things point to the hybrid battery and maybe the battery ECU. As JC91006 stated, you have multiple problems at the same time and it would probably be best to have the dealer look at it and give you the exact reason for the various trouble codes. Then you could decide which needs fixing now, hybrid battery, and what can wait.

Yeah, I've heard the hv battery can actually sustain damage in a hard crash. You just have see the extent of the wreck and hopefully get a good one. Kinda like your brain getting a concussion, a hard hit can scramble things inside and not show any visible damage on the outside.

not sure there is one, but $4-800. sounds reasonable for a low mile pack with warranty.

no idea. around here, there are a few salvage yards i would stop buy and ask. it has been reported by others that some places put them up for sale.

You won't. They (low miles, late model, hasn't been sitting for months, etc for cheap) are more rare than a pink unicorn. Most junkyard dealers have known for years they are worth money.
