Im traveling on down the road not flirting with disaster in my Prius driving the highway and it doesnt matter how fast, how slow, which lane, the high percentage of drivers of one vehicle especially small SUVs are following so close you can actually identify the butt sniffer behind you. You change lanes, just to have the next dork hop on your tail, and I'm not going slow, or driving retarded or like most are in drivers blind spots or participate in the "following the herd" drivers.
    What the hell?
And something astonishing happens, My Prius, aka Ed with the pedal to the metal , doesnt require no 427 or 350 decides to play my best hand and then makes a final move, draw. Straight Flush. #getoffmyass #seesomethingyoulike #dontyouwish

I think a good number of them are oblivious; it's not even intentional.

And the split rear window might make a Prius driver more aware of when they approach.

If you can see them in the lower window, then they're far too close!

the roads are a jungle these days. intentional? hard to differentiate. it's just the way most people behave behind the wheel, and part of the reason there are so many accidents.

We definitely need driver training in this country. But, Iv seen Prius drivers doing the same thing.
Everybody's in a hurry, why? We used to be the best drivers in the world.
Even worse are countries that have no lanes on thier roads, like France, Vietnam.

Sounds like you've never driven in Italy, or else you'd forgotten.

I drove in Italy, about 40 years ago, had no problems except for a parking ticket, which I ignored.

just a reflection of society i think. instant gratification, everyone has too much on their plate. leave late, speed to try and make up time, curse anyone that gets in your way. plus, there's a whole bunch of other problems:
drunk drivers, drugged drivers, texting drivers, phone in the ear one handed drivers, cognitive deficient drivers, unlicensed drivers, uninsured drivers, drivers who can't read signs, or don't know the rules of the road, drivers who got their license, although they shouldn't have, the list goes on. when are self driving cars coming?

driver training@7. Can you imagine how much damage etc. could be curtailed? This goes far beyond nuisance close following. Goes to people well trained to operate complex machinery in complex situations. It's hard to think of another with such a low qualification bar.

In China, where drivers will do almost anything in 'negotiating' for position, at stoplights they put in Neutral and pull up the handbrake. Part of training has stuck at least.

@tochatihu Funny you mention that. We have some traffic lights that stay red for several minutes, so if they change as I'm approaching I now press the Park button until the green come on again. Not quite like selecting neutral and put pulling the handbrake on, but the same overall effect.

I'll do that at the longer lights, but I also shut the engine down.

And keeping your foot on the brake pedal: a good alert to approaching traffic.

In other words: no special tricks, just drive it.

I'm with you, but those brake lights can really annoy somebody stopped right behind you.... especially at night!

I'm sure glad I wasn't in park when a bonehead texter plowed into me at 60+ while I was waiting at a red light.

Sorry, did I say "bonehead texter?" That was redundant.

Modify your rear window washer nozzle to point straight up. Open it up a bit so the flow is pretty heavy. Deploy wash fluid when followers get too close. :)
