"Spin-Clean" oil cleaning centrifuge

    Those are great technology - if the contaminants it removes are what limits the oil life. The challenge for modern engine oil is that contaminants that can be removed by a filter and centrifuge are only half the story.

    To make an oil into for example a 5W-30 oil, usually something like a 15 weight oil is used and then additives give it the ability to behave like a 5 weight oil at 0C and a 30W oil at 100C. There are also additives to help prevent corrosion/acid from contaminants, reduce friction and a number of other things. These additives break down over time, and if they get too low the oil can become too thin or start to cause excess corrosion etc.

    Also many of the contaminants in oil can't be removed with just a low micron filter or centrifuge: burnt hydrocarbons, gasoline, antifreeze, etc.

    To justify its use, you'd need to do used oil analysis on the used oil and see that the amount of heavy metals/particulates was the limiting factor for oil life (Not TBN, etc.). In that case pulling it, centrifuging it, and putting it back in the vehicle would extend the life of the oil. However if it's the TBN or other factor limiting the oil life, it wouldn't help.

    Generally where I hear of people using centrifuges on oil is for making "black diesel." They take used motor oil and run it through very low micron filters, centrifuge it, and then mix it in low amounts with diesel and run it in their diesel car/truck as fuel as normal. If the oil is well filtered and the heavy metals have been removed, this is a safe practice for most modern diesel cars if mixed in low amounts.
