Was curious what that noise is whenever you open up the driver's side car door after the car has been off for a while. I seem to recall reading in the manual somewhere that it was brake-related(?) but can't seem to find it now. I'm assuming the car is figuring you're going to start it soon, so it's getting stuff ready.

But I find myself needing to open the car door a lot to take out and put in stuff onto the front passenger seat the night before, when I have no intention of starting it up until the next morning. I know I can walk around the car to the passenger side door each time, and open that one up instead (as the noise only occurs when opening up the driver's door), but it's easier to just open up the driver's side door and throw stuff down onto the passenger seat.

So... I was just wondering: (a) what exactly that noise is again, (b) if anyone can find where it's mentioned in the manual, and (c) if one needs to worry about triggering it a lot when not intending to start the car up anytime soon (maybe 1-2 times between turning the car on each time over 10+ years).

I guess I'm asking... over the long haul, is it okay to just be lazy and open the driver's door up to put stuff in and take stuff out of the car over the life of the car (triggering that sound) or better to not open the driver's side door each time and walk around to open up the other door instead. Never had a car that did this before actually turning on the engine/power, so...

    Thanks!

It is the ECB (Electronically Controlled Brake) System. This "noise" is described on page 478 of the Prime Manual. This should be a "very reliable" system and should not be a concern.

If it is parked inside a locked garage.........it would be even easier to leave one front window DOWN........right ?? ;)

I suspect that the brake booster pump won't run EVERY time anyway if the interval between openings is short.
