Since I haven't seen anyone document the installation of illumninated Door Sills on a Gen 4 Prius, I thought I'd snap pictures along the way to share.

Not a difficult job--I spent about 1 hour on the driver's side just because I was proceeding with caution (and it has more obstacles). I did the passenger side in about 15 minutes.

Part number is PT942-47160. Here's what it contains:

Comes with all the needed hardware.

I didn't bother with disconnecting the battery. I figured I'm not working with anything dangerous.

First remove the scuff plates next to the door and the kick panel. Pretty simple--scuff plate is attached only at the ends, so just yank it out. Kick panel cover has a screw towards the firewall that must be removed first, but it's easily done.

Next, remove the panel located under the driver's side dash. Two screws and one clip. Comes out easily. Disconnect the footwell light. Footwell light is where we'll tap in for juice later:

Next, insert the "Pinch Weld Bridge" on the body--used to keep the wire from rubbing against the body and fraying down the line. It's position should be a little forward of the rear OE Harness clip.

Here is the wire crossing the "bridge". Secure with electrical tape, then replace the weather seal.

One thing to note: the bridge must be placed under the "soft" part of the weather seal (i.e. part that does not have a spine):

Then route the wire along the OE wiring, above the hood release cable and behind the metal bracket you'll see. It was kind of tight, but not really bad. Here are the plug for footwell light and the door sills together, finally at last:

Using the enclosed T-taps, connect the footwell wire with the Door sill wire. It's color coded--white and brown for the driver's side, pink and green for the passenger side. It's pretty stupid proof. Here's what it looks like after they're all connected:

    Success!

Looks pretty neat. I replaced the interior lights with LEDs so this blue complements well.

Passenger's side is pretty much identical, but easier since there's much less things getting in the way. The panel under the glove box is secured only with 3 clips so you won't even have screws to contend with.

One thing that will help you is to have a good source of light. Even during the daylight hours, area behind the dash is not very well lit. LED shop light that I had helped a great deal.

Very nice job. Looks great. (I'm still looking for the non-illuminated ones.) How do those attach to the door sill, two-way tape?

Yes, two-way tape. Seems to be quite secure.

It's not too a bad price for 4 stainless steel scuff plates (of which 2 are illuminated). 12 years ago, I was looking for a set of illuminated door sills for a 2003 Corolla. It was $130 for just 2 stainless steel illuminated scuff plates.

    Thanks for this.

I actually used your instructions in installing the parts to our two 2016 Prius. Very easy to follow.

Since they're just attached via two-way tape, wondering if these could fit a Prius v... since the PIP version apparently doesn't.

The pieces are precisely contoured to the 4th Gen (i.e. they're not flat), so I would think that the fit would be pretty poor (although I'm sure you could get them to light up).

Do the 4th gens come with a non-illuminated threshold? No? Or just some levels? If no, is a non-illuminated threshold available?

I mighta asked this before, can't remember the outcome.

I don't think officially, but you did ask when I posted :), it looks like they sell blank or blue stencilled Prius name, haven't seen any other colors
