I hate when there are reviews and the reviewer doesn't even know which model he is in. He insists this is the "middle level" model. It is not. It's a Plus, not a Premium, which has the 11 inch screen.

I was wondering if they might be Canadian and possibly have a different set of Prime models available. Regardless, in the USA market, it is a Plus like mine. Perhaps @Tideland Prius might have a clue.

Trim level aside, I find him quite knowledgeable (for a reviewer), and yes, one of the best reviews.

Did I misunderstand something in the presentation, but did he say that in POWER mode, that the ICE can come on in EV mode if you push it? I thought ECO/NORMAL/POWER just tweaked the throttle displacement/power curve.

And concerning acceleration, when do you get the new MG1+MG2 (ICE OFF) operation, and when do you get MG2 + ICE? I forget how that works. Which gives better acceleration?

I'm pretty sure he was talking about in Ev use in Hv mode. It's true, if you're light on the throttle, it runs as an Ev *a lot* even in Hv mode.

But, yes, in Ev mode, it makes essentially no difference where you keep the throttle. I've never had it trip out of Ev mode until it was out of range or over 85mph.

It looks like a US-spec car (esp. with the IL licence plate). In Canada, we only have two trims - base and Technology (essentially Plus and Advanced.... with heated steering wheel as standard equipment).

I was OK with this until:

Yes, charging takes longer – a full top-up takes over 12 hours at 120 volts, 9.5 hours at 240 volts (which is the highest you can install at home), and 2.5 hours at a 480 volt DC fast charger,

<AHEM> "OVER " somewhat saves it but not by much. Had it been "over 19 hours at 120 volts", I would not have choked.

What do you mean by "easily possible"?

Also (speculation on my part), they're working on getting it certified for sale in the U.S.

    Re: Advanced Review:
Mr. Tideland, the reviewer is an obvious oaf, and ignorant cretin, other than that he obviously must be driving a Lamborghini as his daily driver!! His ridiculous statements regarding the car's performance leave him with virtually no credibility regarding his other statements. I daily merge onto freeway ramps, easily pass cars at 70-80 miles per hour, so I simply cannot understand his patently false statements about the car's performance. I do agree about instrument placement and video arcade look of the car, but those things are purely subjective and can't take away from the car's smooth, quiet, and decent acceleration!! I've had the Prime up to 110 mph, and it had plenty left over. Maybe I could give this imbecile some lessons on how to drive a car!!
I'll have to read the other review later, after work! Take care!!

I used to subscribe to Aotoweek because in the past, the anti-Prius snark was kept down and they concentrated on facts and data. But that editor-in-chief retired and his replacement is as uninspired as this review. My subscription was up so I declined to renew.
