My wife was driving our prius the other day to drop off our son at school. Just before she turned the car of she heard it beeping. She thought it was the seatbelt but wasnt for sure. When she got back in the car it wouldnt start... the lights come on the dash but nothing.. I had to go pick her up and take her home. That evening I was able to get it going but three lights were on the dash and another Red light on the upper left hand corner of the LCD screen for the GPS. I have attached a picture. I went home, removed the 12v battery and seen that it was at 12.20v which should be over 12.5v. I charged it up placed it back in the car. Started up and drove it. Noticed no lights on and seen that the hybrid battery was only on one bar, very low. So I drove it around until it got up to 80% then parked it. Last night I checked the 12v and it was at 12.57v this morning I checked it and it was at 12.54v. still good. I started it up this morning and was going to drive it to work to see if I get any more issues but all the lights came back on.. ugh.. I am so confused.. also my hybrid battery is at 1 bar again.. is it my hybrid battery? I dont know.. anyone else have this issue? IMG_5713.JPG

You need to get the codes read. It's the only way to know for certain the issue without guessing. If your hv battery is from 2005, it can be an issue but looking at your lights, it may not be the battery

Thank you, just wish I could afford a good scanner tool, have one for newer cars but not this one.

You can buy a mini vci cable with techstream on Amazon for about $25. Runs of a computer. That's read all your prius codes.

Or maybe a member can help you read the codes

A common failure is the inverter pump, replacement is about every 100k miles

Self discharge of a weak or failing cell. It's 12 years old.

The lights you're showing doesn't seem to point to that. There should be more lights

You have a 10 year / 150k miles warranty on it in California. 8 years elsewhere

if it turns out to be the hybrid battery, call toyota and ask for goodwill assistance. it never hurts to try.

All the newer cars should have the same connector (2000+) I think

ok, so I had a customer that is a Toyota hybrid tech, he came over last night and scanned my prius. Found that everything on the hybrid system is running perfect, individual cells on the hybrid battery was showing excellent. He said it pointed towards my 12v battery. So today I am picking one up and hopefully that will resolve my issue. I just replaced it 6 years ago in July. The battery I have is from Toyota and comes with a 7 year warranty were the first two years is covered fully and the last 5 years prorated.. Well I called Toyota and They don't keep customer data longer than two years and are unable to look up my receipt for the battery... bummer as I couldn't find it either. Code stamp on the battery shows July 20th 2011 but still they cant do any returns without a receipt. ugh.
