Remote A/C & Climate Prep Quick Guide

    Well my car is always locked, as it my charging cord because some do-do at work actually stole my charging cord because I guess they could sell it on e-bay for crack? I do not know, I don't think like a criminal. So after work reimbursed me the cost, I keep the charging port (and doors of course) locked all the time. I will see again... I keep experimenting with this car, but I do love it!

    Got a prime advanced yesterday, the small print says that charging with 220v takes 2.5 hours, and charging at 120v takes 11.5 hours, I'm assuming that it would be at 8 amps, as the car can be charged at full "power" or 8 amps, or is the small print small and wrong?

    I think it's more like 2:10 and 5:30 respectively.

    When I charge at home, from 0 EV left on my gauge, my Advanced always indicates 1:50 hours/minutes to fully charge.
    . When I charge using 110V, the indicated charge time has ranged from 5:30 to 6:30 hours/minutes .

    Well I read those posts and they don't to me answer the questions... which I really don't have any questions more of a statement that the remote climate timer in the Prime sucks compared to the LEAF. I want my car to charge when I connect it and I want my interior to be cool or hot when I am ready to go. I can not achieve this with the Prime and I could with the LEAF. That is because the Prime attempts to put both events in the same function instead of separating them. So this is my solution:

    1) I killed my schedule (turned it off) for the charging
    2) The Prime charges in the AM when I get in after about 2 hours with my Turbo cord
    3) I get nice notifications on my iPhone when it is done, usually about 2 hours within 5 min (btw this is better than the LEAF because the Entune app is better than Nissan's garbage)
    4) If I remember, I go into the Entune app about 4:20 (LOL) and fire up the climate control. I can't do it earlier (The LEAF would do it about 4pm for a 4:30 departure) because it only works for 10 min!
    5) I get in at 4:30 and the car is a little cooler/warmer than with nothing.

    Is this perfect? Far from it! I wish that the following adjustments (which are all in software) could be made:

    1) Let us set the climate control timer, so I can run it 30 min in advance, it will use the "shore power" of the EVSE so there is no drain on the freshly charged battery.

    2) Allow for a more customizable schedule to let us put in a climate control start time (preferred option, if #1 is not done)

    This is my big gripe with the Prime and I am most certainly nit-picking BTW. It is a beautiful car and I love driving it.

    This is really totally unnecessary. I've done it for as little as 3 minutes in advance, in the hot Kansas sun, and entered a cool car.

    I'm not 100% certain this applies to climate prep, but since it applies to remote A/C, I suspect it's the same:

    So, shut off Eco and S-Flow before you leave the car and see if it's ready in 10 minutes.

    Well my CC is always set to 69 with NO Eco and Driver priority, with Full AUTO. When I am in the car, it works great (better than the LEAF actually cause it does not try to use only heater vs. full A/C which I prefer). But I just don't think 10 min is enough! And I want a timer.

    Like I said, shut off S-Flow, which you are calling driver priority. That will increase performance enormously.

    And it does have a timer. Use the charge schedule. If the battery is full or if you aren't plugged in, it should just do the climate prep.

    The feature I have been wishing for on my Advance is more like what older Prius models call 'solar ventilation' I think - right now, my car sits around getting hot in the sun. Ideally, since it has temp sensors inside and outside both, it could compare those, say, every 10min, and if the interior was warmer by a certain amount, it could crack the windows, and turn on the vents to move cooler air into the car. It could even use the sensor for rain on the windshield to close the windows as needed. Instead I get complaints about 'Window Open' if I manually crack the windows (which is also a pointlessly fiddly and time consuming thing, when it could be a single voice command / touch on the screen to do all four...).

    I've been posting my difficulties with pre-conditioning in another thread, but today for first time succeeded in using the Fob to start remote cooling with the EVSE attached. Not my preference, but OK.

    My annoyance though is that my car is always parked with the windows open, so I have to start the car to close the windows and then the insult to injury begins: the car makes me wait 3.5 minutes to use the Fob. I understand the intent: the car presumes the A/C remote button was pressed in error proximate to turning the car off. But I would appreciate a special sekret code Fob button press to combine closing windows with starting the A/C.

    This is less an annoyance with the higher trim because a smartphone can close windows. I really doubt Toyota intended this to be a differentiating feature absence for the Plus trim, and more likely an oversight or bug. After all, it cannot be uncommon for people to leave windows open for ventilation .... right ?

    When parking in my garage, before shutting down I often lower my windows for ventilation and for easier access to the interior. Although I don't know how common that is, maybe we are the only two people who do that!

    However you shouldn't have to "start" the car to close the windows, if by that you mean putting it in READY mode (press brake pedal then press power switch). You just need to put it in ON mode (press the power switch twice without the pressing the brake pedal). In ON mode the power is coming from the 12V battery, and it prevents ICE from coming on inadvertently.

    Although I don't know if that will help with the 3.5 minute time limit. On page 510 the manual states:

    "The Remote Air Conditioning System cannot be used for approximately 3 minutes and a half after the power switch is turned off."

    which may apply to switching off from any of the three modes (ACCESSORY, ON, READY)

    One of the unfortunate facets of living in a city. It would probably surprise you to learn that the only key I own is the Fob to the car, and I can go days when home without seeing asphalt. If you happen by SW Colorado, drop by. I'll treat you to Vistas and Skies that a large segment of humanity confuses with a Kodak photo.

    And don't be alarmed -- we have electricity. The PV is right outside.

    I have fond memories of Colorado. Around 1973, my band was hired to play in Snowmass for Christmas Eve through New Year's Eve. It was 10 below outside, and about 90 degrees inside at The Keg, where we played! What a party, and how beautiful was the countryside, especially leaving in the early morning with the icicled, bluish skeletal trees, highlighted by the rising sun of the New Year!! . The trip to Colorado in my Prime (car, not necessarily health!), sounds like fun!!

    Does anybody know how not to have a/c turn off when unlocking the doors. It's well over 100* in Mesa, Az.

  20. I am not able to search the forum to see if this has been discussed before, because I receive an error message saying that the search could not be completed.

    So, I will post my question here, since it seems recent and relevant enough.

    The manual says on page 133: "Avoid parking the vehicle in areas with a high temperature under direct sunlight when the hybrid battery (traction battery) is fully charged." Given our record heat, would 88% charge be fine? I have to park in the full hot sun at work. Are there any other dangers, and should I leave the windows open or keep them closed?

    The manual says on page 565: "Do not expose the vehicle to direct sunlight for extended periods of time. Park the vehicle in the shade, especially during summer." So, is this a problem with SofTeX even with Xzylon applied?
