I have a Prius C1 (2012) at about 58,000 miles and last week it begun to have trouble starting... the check light would be on and nothing else will be on. In the beginning it will take 10 minutes of trying for the engine to be on... and early this week when the car is in the garage I cannot start it any more. I read some threads and the first possibility is the 12v battery out of charge... so I bought a battery charger
"Battery Tender 021-0123 Battery Tender Junior 12V, 0.75A Battery Charger"
    www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CITK8S

and used it to charge the 12V battery... it took a whole night and the battery charger LED displayed flashing red, and then red, and than flashing green, and than green lights, showing the battery gradually and now fully charged. No problem with the battery.

I then tried to start the Prius C again... still sometimes the check light lights up, no other system seeming to turn on when I start the car. Other times when I plug in the key nothing happens at all. I did notice when I put the key in the on position I can turn on the radio. Of course I did not keep the radio on for more than a few seconds.

The car is in my garage... what else can I do? thanks for any information!

It is most likely time for a new battery. Personally, I would replace the battery considering its age; over 5 years. If you don't want to do that, I would fully charge it, then take it to an auto pars store or the dealer and have them test its capacity. This will give you a definitive answer whether its time to replace it. Many on this forum and others have had similar issues that were resolved by replacing the battery. Finally, if these are not a good option, take the car to the dealer/mechanic and have them test the system and/or pull codes. Good luck.

Thanks. Eventually the car was towed to a dealer and the problem was a dead 12v
    battery.

    Thanks

Can you please tell me the part number of the battery? And how much did it cost to replace?

Unsure of the part number of the 12v battery. Costed $320 for part and installation, at dealer, in California
