I'm going to be picking up a 2015 Prius c Four soon, and am curious about upgrading the stereo/screen. Looking at Crutchfield, it seems that nothing with a screen is compatible which strikes me as a bit strange. Is there really no upgrade? Would something like the Sony XAV-AX100 (
) not work? Having something with Apple CarPlay would be really nice. I'd appreciate any knowledge you all might have.

Why are you looking to change the screen? You can upgrade the stereo without changing the screen. In a Four the screen should be fairly good already.

Ah I just assumed they went together. Do you recommend a stereo upgrade that will work that includes Apple CarPlay?

There's already an iPhone specific setting for the c. Carplay doesn't seem to have anything special that your c 4 shouldn't already have.

I had a base stereo in mine. I upgraded to a Jensen VX7022. It was about $200 (plus an installation wiring kit and a data converter for the steering controls).

There was some technical knowledge required to install it (like splicing the wiring harness together and programming the convertor); but I'm an electrician and a computer nerd, so that wasn't too tough. A competent stereo installer could probably knock it out faster, but I'm cheap and I know how to find the answers I need. I had to do a little rewiring on the roof mic to bypass the built-on Toyota mic amplifier... added a rear camera for $20... and I'm all good.

Now I have cam, nav, bluetooth, thumbdrive/usb, HDMI screen mirroring/sharing, Pandora/Media control of my Android phone, and iPod control of my iPhone. I don't know if the factory upgraded stereo has all of those things... but I doubt that I could have purchased one for $300. The Jensen also has cool customization of things like wallpaper and rainbow color control of the control knob/button lighting.

Crutch field is very far behind on their Prius C research. I haven't changed my head unit because I found that installing new speakers and a sub made me happy enough. The unit also controls some of the vehicle options, so you'd likely want to set those before you install a new unit.

I upgraded to a Jensen (VX7020) about 2 years ago and the unit died on me about two weeks ago. Hopefully the VX7022 is better than my unit because the Jensen's have a issue where the boot files become corrupted after 12-18 months (poor coding leaves memory dumps, and improper shutdowns eventually lead to file corruption). Their warranty is only good for 12 months, and to repair the files costs $185.50 and sending the unit away for weeks. After reflashing the correct boot files, secondary warranty is only good for 90 days with no guarantees that it wont brick itself again once files re-corrupt again (short term fix basically). Long story short, stay the hell away from Jensen (the company was sold a year or two ago and new owners just want a cash grab). Paid $250 for a radio that barely lasted 18 months.

Thankfully I kept my original stock stereo and reinstalled it, but now I'm realising how bad the stock stereo amp sounds so im researching for another upgrade.

I have my eyes set on the Joying Android 6.0, Double Din, 4/8Core 2gb Ram 1080p 7"/8"/10.1" Tablet units, basically an android tablet with all car stereo functionality and everything a phone/tablet can do: AM/FM, Backup Cam, GPS, Front Dash Cam Recording, Bluetooth, Wifi, 4g wifi Hotspot, Google, Appstore (Spotify, Pandora, Netflix, KODI, Angry Birds ect.), Mirror link, Picture in picture, EQ/Amp, Steering Wheel control support, usb/sd slots for Nav/Maps storing or Music/Movies, ect...

I'm waiting for their newest unit to drop in a week or two, it's got an upgraded amplifier as the only complaint for these chinese android units I've found is sound quality. You can also root the tablet and install your own OS/Custom apps and they range in the $300-400 range, boot time is only 1-2 seconds too! Nothing comes close to the functionality in the american markets with Pioneer/Kenwood/ect.. Also a fraction of the cost, and they use phone/tablet screens so it's more reactive to finger touches with multi-touch and you don't have to physically push in on the screen like my old POS Jensen and most USA units.

Link here for the unit I'm waiting on:

That looks pretty cool. Once it's installed post some pics, I'm curious what it looks like in our dash.
