Do you know if Gen III or Gen II modules be retrofitted to a Gen I pack?

I think it can be done, but the gen1 modules are slightly longer.....and gen1 are 38 modules vs 28 modules for the gen2 and gen3

You would replace it. Or you're saying you just wouldn't spend the money at all?

My apologies. Now that I'm remembering correctly. It was the 9th series of 2 modules.

I would not invest money in a gen1 car, as nice gen2 cars are about $2000-$4000 now. Cheaper if they have higher miles. The gen2 cars are far more superior than the original gen1 experiment.

I just can't really afford that. My ex had one the lasted up to 230,000 miles. I've heard of them lasting past 300,000. Mine only has 150,000. In my experience with it, it's a great car! The Gen II is superior for sure, but I feel this car still has a lot of life left in it.

I just realised we are talking about Gen I and the count of modules in Gen I packs are the from the ECU, if I am remembering correctly, so block 5 is still modules 9 & 10 and block 9 is still modules 17 & 18; it is from the ECU end not the opposite like I said before. I'll go back and correct that post. My apologies.

Ok. So I replaced the 17th module then.

What prevents you from replacing the iridium spark plugs and PCV valve?
What is the condition of the 12V battery?
What is the condition of the engine coolant water pump? Did you check the bearing of that pump while you were changing the serpentine drive belt?
What is the condition of the suspension, brakes, exhaust system and tires?
Have you cleaned the throttle body interior and throttle plate?

I don't know. The Hybrid Automotive set up costs $500 to $750, and a replacement pack costs $1600 (Dorman) to ~$2800 (Toyota.) I have two Gen 1 Prii's both with good HV batteries. It seems to me if the Prolong system helps me get another couple or 3 years it's probably worth it. Prolong system will help with battery memory and will balance the cells-- which generate heat and cause battery problems.I wouldn't try replacing modules without some way to balance them

$750 is half the car's value, and other things can break. What do you do with with the charger after that? It's a very expensive tool for such an old car.

It's different if you can use it for 5+ years

You periodically rebalance the batteries. The prolong system doesn't wear out after one use. I consider it maintenance and keep the electronic component in a nice dry storage are in my bedroom. My Prii's are very nice cars, each worth ~$3 grand or so. I'll keep them out of the JY as long as I can.

I understand it's not a 1 time use tool, but if the car breaks, do you buy another gen1? No, you probably would get a gen2 or newer. And that uses a different charger.

It's a proprietary tool for $750, for use on a 14+ years old car.

Thanks a lot! I will do all the above. The 12V battery was just replaced. Brakes are good, tires are descent, I'm not sure about the exhaust system.

The suspension isn't so good. Shocks are leaking in the back, but that's not too big of a deal to me because it doesn't effect the longevity of the vehicle. It's just a comfort issue. I have not cleaned the throttle body interior or throttle plate; will do that.

Again, thanks lot. Is there anything else you can think of?
