    I have a 2016 Prius 2 Eco and need to get into the dome light area. Those photos would really help but all show up with big red Xs - so they've been taken down or are no longer available. Can anyone help please? Thanks.

    I've looked at the toyota TIS service manual and this is the way toyota recommends the removal with 4 mount points, I HIGHLY recommend using some sort of plastic pry tool like this

    Weird, I don't see the pics in the first post, but post 15 still has visible pics, may your great UK firewall in place? :D

    I've attached the TIS instructions

    I'm really not sure what the policy about posting TIS things, but this is literally the most simple diagram, not like its trade secrets/wiring.

    I looked at it but it's a 4 with a sunroof. Mine is an ECO2 without a sun roof. Those photos are better than nothing though. Thanks.

    Its the same for both, I just remembered that I found this video a few weeks ago, I remember seeing it and thinking oh it easy to pop off, but I think because they demo'ed it several times, it was easy for them to remove it after they loosened it up.

    OK - I got the tools from Amazon and watched the video - and you're right - this guys pops it off as if it's nothing. So far I haven't been successful but am probably just too cautious. Can you describe how you wiggle or press to get them off?

    Straight off. It's a leap of faith. Easier than it seems.

    Thanks - but let me ask one more time to be as sure as I can. Which tool - I am thinking the one with the 90 degree bend, largest/strongest of the four pry tools. Insert the short end, push up to catch the lip of the frame, pry against what? - the metal housing above the frame? Just push up from the end of the tool and pry it off one fastener at a time starting at the end nearest the windshield?

    I used the short fat pry bar with the beveled edge. I think the key is not to try to pull at any angle - straight.

    Well, it worked just as you said it would. The key for me was your final note - it takes a leap of faith. My purpose was a bit different from most. I installed a radar detector behind the rear view mirror and there was no power feed on the dash (that's a change from past models that I didn't appreciate). I got the dome light down, detached both connectors, traced the power (12 volts on the main feed - red and green wires. 5 volts on the secondary feed - red and black). Anyway, for those who are thinking about doing this, the tool is only to pry the plastic housing down enough to get your hand under so you can tug down and pull the entire housing out as shown in the video. I was afraid the red plastic fasteners would break or required twisting. They don't. They just pull out almost all at once with a loud "click" and you are holding the entire housing in your hand. It pops right back in with very little pressure when you are done. It DOES take a leap of faith, and I'd never design a system like that one, but it is what it is... THANKS to everyone who helped show the way. Fun!

    Well, I posted a note earlier today that failed to record, so I will try again. First, thanks to everyone who helped with this "project" - it was a big success. Special thanks to krmcg - your comment: "It takes a leap of faith" was right on target and gave me the courage to get the dome light out of the headliner. For those getting ready, a few comments. First, the tool is really just to pry enough space to get your hands under the housing so you can pull it down. Mine came loose all at once with a snapping sound. I thought I was supposed to pry the individual fasteners, but that's not right. You must grab it and tug - harder than you might think - to get it loose. The four red fasteners just pop out, and when you are ready to reinstall, they pop right back in. It's an odd system, but it works OK. Just scary to do the first time.

    Most people on this forum are trying to replace the lights in the dome. I wanted to tap into the power under the dome for a radar detector I mounted on the windshield behind the rear view mirror. My 2009 Prius had power on the dash that I used. My 2016 has power way back on the center console - not suited to power something on top of the dash. Once I got the dome light loose, I disconnected the two power cables and tested them for voltage. The larger one is the main feed, 12 volts on the red and green lines (green is ground). The smaller connector is 5 volts, red and black wires (red is positive). I was able to feed the power cable for the detector out an existing hole in the headliner right behind the top next to the windshield. I left extra cable inside, and the main feed to the radar detector comes out and goes directly to the system - maybe a six inch run, all behind the mirror so nothing shows in the cockpit. Very neat and works great.

    None of this would have happened without the help I receive from folks on this forum. Thanks VERY much for helping me to customize my 2016 Prius. I am back in business and much happier with that change in place. Merry Christmas everyone!

    I have replaced most of the bulbs for LED but am having trouble removing the map light unit. The pictures in the original post have disappeared ! P1020130.JPG
    Ok I have searched the threads and have got no where! I have tried levers from all directions, I have managed to lift the clear cover from the edges, but the middle remains fast, I have lifted the front edge snapped ,one clip off the front, I have lifted the edge of the piece separating the plastic with the big main switch from the clear plastic. So far it will not separate. I have used trim levers and screwdrivers HELP[IMG] I have not tried removing the whole unit though!

    @Philthunder
    Watch the video in the post just before yours. It shows how to do it.
