I recently sold my 2011 Prius Two to a friend who's disappointed that it doesn't have Bluetooth capability or USB ports for charging phones. Though I gave her a DC input phone charger for the car, she really wants Bluetooth so she can use her phone and likely avoid a ticket for holding it as recently happened. I'd assumed all 2011 Prius models had both features but never noticed the lack of them in mine because I don't need those features. So my question is: can they be added for a reasonable cost, especially Bluetooth? I'm doubting it, particularly since Bluetooth seems to be tied into the audio system. My old Two had the low-end audio system and I suspect I'd need the better one in the Three to have had Bluetooth and USB ports. I'm going to call my dealer about this but to anyone who knows or has an opinion about this, please give me your thoughts. Thanks so much!

Yes but does your car already have Bluetooth or does this device provide it? Is your 2011 also a Two? Thanks!

It makes no difference WHAT make or model of car you have.
As long as it has an AUX input jack available on the audio head, that device will work.
It uses Bluetooth pairing with your PHONE, not the car.

And gotta say.......if this really is a friend, you should gently try to convince her to turn her phone OFF while driving.
For the benefit of us all.
Studies have proven that hands-free phone calls can be just as distracting as having the phone up to your ear.

She's already gotten a ticket and points on her license for using a hand held phone and I've advised her against using it whenever possible. Problem is she's a single mother of 3 kids working full time because she no longer has a husband; he died of alcoholism after their divorce. She often needs to be in touch with them at any given time. I've never had Bluetooth so I don't really understand how it works but thank you for your input on the topic.

My 2011 Prius does not have Bluetooth, which is why I use this device. The device that I referred to is what provides the Bluetooth. You basically plug in the power adapter to the Prius; the power adapter has a USB port so that it can power the device and provide power to your phone. Then you plug the stereo jack to your AUX input in the Prius. The round device gets mounted within arm's reach and has a microphone built in. You then pair your phone to the device, which sends the audio through your car radio (set on AUX). The phone interacts with the Bluetooth in the device, which then passes the audio to your car speakers.

She needs to give greater consideration to what the kids will go through if her driving distracted causes her to be KILLED in a car crash. :(

And I suppose this also means that each of the kids has their own cell phone.

This has only been an option for the last 20 years or so........and we somehow got along just fine before that.
