Coolant Control Valve in FI application - I/O's

    Looking for details on function of the control valve. I confess, this is not prius related, I'm looking to use this valve to control coolant flow in a supercharged 6L GM application. The valve will direct intercooler coolant either to a air to water exchange or a r134 to water exchanger to manage the IATs.

    - in the diagram, what it the voltage on E2 to VC? 12V or 5V? the table says 5 volt - true? Kinda important as I don't want to apply 12V to a 5V load and let the magic smoke out. Since it's a worm drive, I suspect the E2 to VC is actually 5V to open, -5V to close.

    - How does the valve operate? if the VC to E2 is only 5V, is it normally in one setting and the motor drives it and holds it when VC is applied? when VC goes to zero, does the valve return to home - spring or internal water pressure?

    - WSL1/2 and WSAD are postion feedback only? (voltage)

    ALL sensing is done at 5v nominal, so the three wires on the pot would be +5v (center tap) and then 0.25v-4.75v on either of the other two (one increasing, as the other decreases).

    Not 100% sure based on the diagram, but I'll pop the motor out and see if I can read anything. From my testing with 12v, no magic smoke escaped and the motor did not turn, although it tried!

    Based on this photo, the position sensor (potentiometer) is rated for 12v:

    Thank you for the reply. I got my paws on a valve. It does activate with +/-5V power through the three positions. Draws approx 200mA. The rest of my chiller parts arrive later in the week. At this time, I plan in using a 12V usb adapter as the supply, have a few 1A one around - could also use a 7805 and few caps. Will control with a momentary rocker. The position will me monitored with voltmeter -ebay is great.

    I applied +/- 12V to the BLACK & PINK wires, they control motor direction. The three "Gn-Wh-Bu" wires are the position SENSE wires and 5v to the controller. Clearly, based on the sensor markings, 12v is suitable for sense as well.

    The control ball cannot make a full revolution, there are mechanical limits. If 12 o'clock is "centered", it will operate between about 7 o'clock thru 12 and onto about 5 o'clock and back - approximately.

    Rotation is understood, only need two positions. I was unsure on the power to the motor as the schematic show VC coming off the ECM. Past experience dictates the controls off the ECM are current limited. The table lists a diagnostic as VC -E2 as 5 Volts at key on. Perhaps when running it's at 12v? Regardless, the current is very low and clearly the ECM provide the output.

    BTW, what is the operation voltage on a Prius? Nominal 13.6? No prius experience, only a gen1 Insight for hybrid and it way different than a prius.
