Although I disagree. I see that you have made many valuable posts, however, only once or twice in 150+ posts did you include your year...which could be very valuable to the person who is reading your post. Your advice is great, but it many not apply to a different year vehicle...and I often see the incorrect advice given to people with different year/package vehicles.

However, how I am commandeering the board, when Danny sent out an email (just look higher up in this thread for a copy of it), stating that this information was now required. Unfortunately, he did not program it so that current users would have to do it before posting again...however, if you go into your profile, you can't leave without adding this information. So all I am trying to do is to help everyone to follow Danny's rules.

Once again, both you and hawkjm have included this information in posts, so why not just add it.

You have over 900 posts...and only a handful of times have mentioned to the person you are responding to the year and / or package of your vehicle. Is that person to just blindly follow your information, assuming that you know that your information fits their year and model? Since many people accidentally give information that applies to a different year and package, how can everyone who does not know you trust that you know them?

Look, no one is trying to control anyone. Just making it easier for everyone. If you feel that way, why not join a Toyota board so no one knows your model, or better yet a car board so no one knows your make, or even better a transportation board so no one knows your mode of transport.

Please let's not make more of this then it is. Danny has requested this information and it is his board.

    Thanks

I'm all for vocal but polite encouragement of completing profiles. It's now sort of 'mandatory' when new members register so that's helped a bit.

But I also agree that rules making the profile mandatory are not necessary and will likely lead to loss of otherwise good contributors who might have come here but b/c of the rules decide to go elsewhere.

I believe the profiles are helpful. I like to answer questions and if people included all pertainent information for a given question that would be fine even without a profile. But the majority of newbies asking about their mpg, their 12v battery draining, various beeps and troubles have no idea that it matters where they live or what options their car has. When, in fact, many of us 'experts' realize that those are often the main factors.

Thus, complete information keeps us from asking the litany of usual questions that we have to ask after the next newbie asks why his mpg is low.

And you paranoid freaks who won't even say what state you're from, how do you ever get out of your houses?! Fer Christ sake, how the heck would I ever find mikey456 from Connecticut with a white package #6 '06 Prius? That info would take me a very long way to answering many 'typical' questions and discloses nothing of any value to a 'bad guy'.

    Thanks Evan,

I really value your opinion, as in every post of yours I have read, you are always nice and helpful and never act like you are the "all knowledgeable" Prius king that your really are.

As I stated above, knowing the year and package of the the person giving you advice also goes a long way.

    Thanks!

    Mike

Sorry if you are one of those peole who hates top posting but I figure you already know what is below since it is the first post on this topic...

I cannot tell if I am an offender or not. I filled in everyhting I could when I joined and I just went back to make sure it was as current as possible. The only thing I added that wasn't already there was my Yahoo and MSN id's.

So far I have only posted once to ask someone who said they had decided to get a Seaside Pearl Prius what it looked like and never saw a response to me, or to the thread. I rented a Prius last weekend (from http://www.rentahybrid.com/) and took it for a 357 mile test drive. In the process I saw someone else in a Seaside Pearl Prius (at least I think it was) on the road and got to see it in between watching the road as we both drove down Pacific Coast Highway north of San Diego.

    Cheers!

    Rick Carlson

I received no email from Danny. You expected me to go theough a three page thread to find an "email" that isn't actually an email?

Gee, why wouldn't you put that info in your post? Someone who is so concerned about having complete information to answer should have thought of this. ;-)

After the all the silly playing with the "you" tag, I ignore all posts that appear to call me out by name. Ever read "The Boy Who Cried Wolf"? I learned something from it.

Maybe it's time to move on...

Yes, your right, I think it was not an email. I believe it actually appeared one day when I entered Priuschat (although it may have been emailed to me in a link, I can't remember). Maybe others can verify. If that is the case, then people who did not update, had to have bypassed Danny's message. What I don't get is why some people are so against this...yet have no problems being listed as a "senior prius poster"...and have never brought up an issue with listing the number of posts they have or their member number...I guess those things are Ok?

    Moving on...

Well, I went and filled out the info... but it won't do any good. I bought what was clearly identified as "BC" and "Package 6" online and in paperwork. But it is the "everything" package which used to be called "9". If I posted "6" then it would be ambiguous what options I actually have. So how much has it helped to clear things up?

I agree with KTPhil dump the damn "you" tag when I saw that one about updating I just about walked on PC. Long past time for Danny to get rid of that. We have two Prius and the data is in my sig, if you don't want to read it go suck a stone.

Thanks, those of us who support this really do appreciate your help with this. I would assume you would want to use package 6, as that matches up with your 2005 vehicle. So it would not be ambiguous to those who know the packages for the 2005 year. That is the goal, to properly identify the year and package. People with a 2005 would know that the package 6 is the "everything" package.

That actually brings up another idea...for Danny to have an area where he listed each model year with the packages...all in one easy to look up area.

Anyways, thanks again...I hope we can have a better thread between us sometime soon.

If asking a question in which my location is relevant, I'll include this information. If it isn't germane to a post, why should I even care?

Gee, you really stated that in a fashion that is going to make so many of us just beg to help you out, you are just such a charming kinda guy. I mean, you just could have been so RUDE, and said, oh, I don't know, I think that forcing people to update is a bad idea, and I think I would leave PC if it were required. I have as much information as I am comfortable giving out in my sig, and will add anything relevant in any particular posts that require further info, but you are such a classy guy you took the high road here. Thanks you for being so charming, and I really look forward to reading your future posts and seeing how helpful your fellow members will be in return for your attitude.

    Sincerely sucking stones,
    Rufaro

frank's sig brings up a good point- what about people with 2 prii?

if it's in your signature, why be a nazi about it being under your username? it still shows up with every post. i maintain the position that as long as it's in the post somewhere we shouldn't get so worked up about this.

for you newer folks, frank is more likely to be the one offering tech help than asking for it.

Do boycotts really work? How will we know if the profile is truthful without some sort of verification? Maybe Zaino is listed but NuFinish was used. How do we really know the trim rings weren't put back on after the pictures were posted? Maybe the mud flaps were only installed on one side.

Rick! Welcome to PC, in case you weren't welcomed with post #1. :) If you saw a Prius '04 or newer that was ANY shade of blue, it was Seaside. The Gen 1's had three shades of blue, including a nice "navy", but there's only one now.

What did you conclude after your long test drive?

    ....continued for koa's what ifs...

Maybe they removed their location just before their post?...sound familiar koa? How come you listed Hawaii in your profile before, but omitted it for this post?

I completely agree with those stating that the information can be in their post, their signature, or their profile. As long as it is there, it does not really matter where it is listed.

However, the signature and profile are better then the post, because it is all to easy to forget to add that information to each and every post.

So far those who have argued against listing this information, upon research, have not been adding this information to their post, even when giving advice to others who also have not listed it....so how is this information then helpful?

Hey, if you are posting on a non-Prius subject, then who cares about that information...you guys are right about that...but if you also give advice...then it is another story.
