Just wondering who if anyone had replaced their stock radio with an aftermarket unit, and what suggestions or tips might be helpful. I have only ever replaced the radio in an old Honda Accord before so I am nervous as how to handle all the extra electrical gizmos. While in no way do I know what I am doing, I am intelligent enough to follow instructions and I am confident I can do it myself with a good how to video... advice? Tips? Redirects?

There are several threads about it on here.

I mounted my radio in the pocket below the OEM radio. Quite simple as it all fits and is intended for this (all mountingholes line up, that's obviously not a coincidence). I left the original radio in place, but not connected.

I today purchased a second-hand double din radio. So the next plan is to buy this to put the new double-din in place of the OEM radio and reinstall the pocket.

One thing that made it easier for me is that I had all special interface cabling in place due to my car-kit, but this is something I would definitely get if I were you.

Second thing is the illusive AC-resistor. Once you take the plugs out of the OEM-radio, and hook up another aftermarket one, your AC will no longer work!
Just soldering a simple resistor in the right place will prevent this. Read up on this!!!!!

metra axxess unit interfaces w/ the steering wheel buttons; got to have one of those. and the scosche kit makes it look better, but i had to trim the scosche side pieces to get them to fit flush. and an adapter harness kit from ebay.

i got the kenwood 418ddx and the bluetooth mic sucks. no one can hear me above 30mph. it also doesn't want to pair automatically, but i think that's my crappy phone. i would not recommend the kenwood at this point though it does sound good for music.

I replaced mine with a chinese all in one double din unit. Very happy with it. Here's my link for the install: Chinese 2 din GPS DVD BT RDS and Steering Controls | PriusChat

With this unit no need for the interface unit. But I did order the wiring harness it came with resistor for A/C and made hookup very simple.

I am in the middle of replacing my head unit. I just started a conversation today to get some help.

I have the head unit installed and it works just fine. However the multi-function MFD isn't working properly.

I plan on fixing the MFD before I fix the steering wheel controls.

there is an adapter harness from scosche with a 68 ohm resistor in it, which you need for the climate controls to work on the mfd. the mfd will say audio off when you use the aftermarket head unit, but not a big deal. get the metra axxess for your steering wheel buttons.

Depending on the unit you won't need the metra access for the steering wheel controls. Mine wired directly in. Then in the setup menu in the head, program the switch buttons.
